Some of my 70s vintage computer technician synapses have fired up! It's entirely way cool.
I had one bad 50A plug in a resort in AZ, so said my PI. I lost valuable bacon time, and once lost you can never get it back.

There are ~$50 in parts but ya might be able to do better if you shop right, but we were in a hurry to gather them up. I emailed the instructions to Todd Coffett, the man behind the VC50. He said he built 3 once (with the circuit breaker) at a rally once while sitting around. With his time and parts he felt like $90 was a fair price. Took him several years to sell them. So I guess they are viewed as a luxury item without a lot of demand. But as a fun project - and the understanding of two 120 legs etc ya get while assembling it, I think it's well worth doing and having. Maybe something to do with that grandson of yours. As for bacon time - it wont measure that but there is always time for bacon! Just sayin.
