Question Hi from St. Petersburg

We have not been RVing since we sold our C class unit in the early 90's. We are currently retired and looking to buy a class A unit that we can live in about half the year. We are looking at a Forest River FR3 30DS (31 ft) or a Newmar Baystar 31 ft or possibly a Jayco of about the same size. I would very much interested in the comments either positive or negative of anyone who has had experience with these units. We are leaning towards the FR3, but want to be sure we are making the right decision. I should add that I am 6'1" and although I am slim, I find that I do not fit into the shower on many units and the short 75" beds do not work well either.

Looks like you're only looking at new units. I'd broaden my search to include maybe a used diesel pusher in the same price range. I have a 2000 Newmar Dutch Star that we bought 5yrs. ago and have been fulltiming ever since. I'm 6'4", 235lbs. and I understand the bed and shower problem, but I fit just fine in ours. You just might be a little more comfortable in something a little more substantial. I'm a little prejudiced because we own a Newmar, but there's a lot of fine used units out there to chose from.

Hi jfraser813,
The Newmar Bay Star models 3103 and 3308 have a king bed. Interior height of 80" not including the sky light in the shower. I am also 6' 1" tall.

Yeah, I've noticed that lots of Newmar owners are prejudiced.

We're just up the road in Clearwater.

Thanks for the input. We prefer to stay around 31 ft, but have no problem with a used unit with low mileage. We have been checking Craig's list in Florida and do not see many smaller used Newmars. I keep hearing so many good things about Newmar that we will seriously consider one even though we like the FR3 layout better. It also offers an 80" King bed and adequate shower on a split layout. Thanks again!

jfraser are you going to be traveling a lot in the RV? If so you might want to look at a DP. I had a HR 36 gas and I didn't like the way it drove I have a FW 40 Revolution DP now and the ride you can't compair I will not go back to gas and it has a lot of room. Good luck and happy trails
