High cost of diesel fuel

It costs a fortune to fill the tank on our motorhome with diesel. I wondered what other members do to get the best deal/cost on fuel? Whether it be using a credit card that gives you say 3% cash back on fuel (if someone has a good credit card with high fuel cash back, what card is it?) or possibly using the Good Sam Pilot truck stop credit card that gives a discount at the pump? Just any ideas to save on fuel. Thanks guys.

A WalMart credit card saves $.10/gallon, according to a guy next to me while I was filling the tank.

I think my Capital One card saves 3% on gas, but not sure if that includes diesel or not.

American Express through Costco saves 3% on food and fuel. I use it wherever its taken. Some places don't like it.

Pilot/Flying J stations give $.09 off on diesel if you have their card. Same card gives $.07 on gas. Dave

I find much cheaper diesel prices using free app MyDat Trucker. Often my savings are more than .30 cents a gallon x 100 gal. =$30. Use Passport America when available, then the daily savings pays for my RV site.

MyDat tells us where the hiway rest stops are, Wal-Marts, Amenties and # of parking spots at truck stop.

Check with SouthCarolinagasprices.com or gasbuddy on internet to find cheapest fuel in your area.

I'm still trying to figure out why diesel is .18cents per litre more expensive than regular gas....there was a time when it was a lot cheaper. I guess maybe because of all the diesel cars on the road, or maybe it's heating oil season, or driving season or just because they can. With oil down to $80, funny relative the price at the pump hasn't come down.

Just do some smart shopping. The Pilot/FJ cards are NOT a credit card, Read the fine print closely, especially your liabilities for misuse. Other credit cards give much better discounts. As far as pump prices, we just use Gas Buddy, Murphy web sites, and Google Earth to actually see the stations and the approaches. We paid $3.199 a gal in Gaffney SC a few days ago and the P/FL/Loves/Hess stations were $3.299 to 3.599. When I fill up a 150 gal tank that savings is more than a little bit. We travel more than 20,000 miles a year so this really adds up. Since the major truck stops have changed their marketing planning to the professional trucking firms with direct billing and contract discounts, I've completely abandoned them. They don't want me so I definitely don't patronize them.

MyDat Trucker by DAT Solutions, llc.

It is not downloaded on my brides phone so I searched for it and it came up, so it's available. I'm using Android phones, not sure if it is also for Apple.

In Alabama right now diesel is $3.49 per gallon ... regular gas has gone down to under $3.00. I for one, am not complaining - it's been a lot worse.

Some grocery / department stores have reward cards that can add up to some pretty good savings.

We have a Fred Meyer (local to the Northwest) reward card that currently has over 1300 fuel points accrued. You get 1 point for every dollar you spend in the store, 50 points for every prescription you purchase in their pharmacy and 50 points for taking their online survey, once per week if you want.

Every 100 points is worth $.10 discount at the pump. Then I use my US Bank reward Visa card to pay for the fuel for cash back on top of that. Tomorrow, when I go in to fuel up I'll pay $2.49 per gallon for #2 diesel (not B20). They only allow you to redeem 1000 points on a single purchase so I'll have around 300 points left for the next time.

Safeway has a similar program, although not quite as good.

Two weeks ago I bought fuel at a Chevron and got a $.39 per gallon discount for using their card.
