High wind warnings-precautions?
Sitting at St Joseph Bay on Florida’s panhandle in our 30’ Bay Star with full slide on driver side and side our on opposite side for bed. They’ve issued high wind warnings w possible tornado, since we can’t try to out run it, what do as far as the coach is concerned. Bring in slides? Just sit it out? We do know enough to get into the shelter if need be, just wanting to know what others in the south do. Thanks.

run, drive....or
stay, bring in slides, point the coach into the wind
pray
we don't often consider this, but our coaches battle 60 to 70 mph winds everyday while we are driving them, especially if there are headwinds.... and our coaches deal with sidewinds and gusts that are probably just as severe as what is predicted, and the coach stays on it's feet.
a tornado is a different story, but there's little you can do about it, regardless.

if you want to save your slide toppers you could bring in the slides but from a safety standpoint if at an rv park we ride it out until the tornado warning s get close. we then go to the clubhouse with our dog. We dont ask if dogs are allowed if they dont like dogs they can go outside

We passed through Joplin Missouri this winter. Lots of the rv parks listed tornado shelters in their list of amenities. Not being from a tornado prone area, I found this interesting. Hopefully the rv park you are at has a plan in the event of a tornado. Ask the campground host for advise as to where the safest place would be to go in the event of a tornado. Definitely pull in all the slides. Im not sure if keeping the trailer attached to the truck is better or not. It would make you heavier. Good luck and be safe.

Not much of a shelter here but thanks. Our coach is a class A, so thought I’d just ask the class A group.

We put in the larger slide so the slide topper won't get destroyed and stay until we hear sirens.
Also-I fill a back pack with meds, important papers and a change of underwear. If we have to seek shelter I have the important stuff to deal with the aftermath.

We had this happen and we were in the worst possible spot for high winds anyway. We were fishing, some guys came by on a boat and said there was a tornado warning. We were close to the rig so that wasn't a problem. We stowed all the outdoor stuff. We don't leave much out anyway. Pulled in the slides and rode out the storm.
As far as what to do if the sirens went off we would have headed to the public showers. Less likely to get toppled into the lake lol. We have the weather radio on our cockpit radio plus we have weather radios on our 2 way radios. It came up unexpectedly. It was overcast but its often overcast with nothing to worry about. Now we will make sure we have a radio on and listening. Had the guys not told us we would have been clueless and soaking wet. haha
It rained all night so hard it sounded like we were in a carwash. It was inconvenient having the bedroom slide in, at least we had slide toppers in the morning. Our neighbors weren't so fortunate.

We're just down the road in Carrabelle. It looks like most of the weather is inland so far.
BTW: it's a good idea to keep track of which county you're in. Weather bulletins are by county down here.

Yeah we think the slides in will be the best plan and sit it out hoping it’s not too bad. Thank you.

I am reading this with much interest as we are heading to the Gulf Coast in two weeks with a stop in Carabelle. One of our concerns has been what to do if there is a tornado warning. A lot of good ideas in this thread already and I am taking notes.

We live in Oklahoma, yep, several high wind, hail, and tornado stories. 1. Put the slides, antennas, satellite dishes in or stowed. 2. Everything not tied down, chairs, benches, grilles, get stowed. 3. Good to have jacks down, they help. 4. BIG ONE. When you check in at the park, ask them what county you are in. Travelers know what town they are near, but have no clue what county that is. Almost all weather advisory information is going to refer to a county. You need to know where you are. 5. When you check in in this area in April, May, and June ask where to go in a storm. They will all have a place for you to go, some better than others, but they will have a shelter. High winds you can ride those out. Tornados GET OUT of the rig PERIOD!!!
