Holding tank valves-open or closed?

Hi,
We'll be at one location this winter for a couple of months on FHU's and I'd like to leave the grey tank valve open all the time(easier when we're running the washer all the time). I'll have the black tank valve closed, dump it every 3-4 days and flush it well afterward.
Is this the best proceedure for setting the holding tank dump valves?

Thanks,
Jim

That's the same procedure I use. However, I close the grey water valve a day before I plan on moving the rig. That way, a grey water 'flush' is the last thing I do before storing the hoses.

The problem with leaving the valves open is... You hear all the horror stories about stinky tanks.. Well CLOSE THE )*(@*#($&@# VALVE!!!! and the stink goes by by.

I tried leaving valves open for about a week.. Place smelled like rotting eggs.

Closed the valves, next day sweet as Spring.

True, but I enjoy having the big cockroaches come up out of the sewer; we feed them to the cat and save a bundle on Purina.

When I used a 3" hose I always used on of the expandable hose carriers from the MH to the sewer. I always made a P trap where the hose conected to the MH before it went on the high end of the carrier. That will stop and odor or bugs from the sewer into your grey tank.
