House Batteries

My house batteries are Dekas that I maintain well with distilled water. They do not ever charge over 12.4 according to to monitor in the coach. Is it time to buy new batteries?

If you have a Magnum or Xantrex inverter/charger, unplug the BTS, ( battery tempture sensor ) from the inverter.

If the charging voltage climbs up to 13.5 or more, you have a bad sensor. You can run without it connected.

FYI your charging voltage should be for flooded batteries 13.8 to 14.2 lower then 13.8 you take the chance of the battery cells becoming sulfated which can cause early battery failure, longer charging times and other things. If you are just getting 12.4 volts at charge you need to correct that first before you damage more batteries. Consider your car or MH alternator at normal running speed. It's operating probably at 14 volts or a bit higher.

are you running your MH engine at hi idle when trying to charge your house batteries? This will give you a higher charge rate. And do you have a digital gauge to read the charge rate at the Pos post on the house battery.

What's charging your batteries? Look to see if that's bad or on the way out.
