House batteries only charge with engine now...??

Hey guys,

I noticed on our last outing the House batteries didnt seem to be charging while the generator was running.

After further inspection The house batteries are not charging from shore power or from the generator... but they are charging fine while the engine is running.

All the batteries are in great shape too...

Where should I start?

Thanks in advance for the help

Sounds like your transfer switch may be bad.

You don't say what model of coach you have, so limited advice. It sounds like the BIRD solenoid is not functioning. That is if your rig has that setup. Search on this forum about BIRD and if you have one, I bet that is where your problem is. I just purchased on new on eBay for $169.

Make sure the battery isolator solenoid (via the salesman switch) is functioning. On my coach, the battery isolator solenoid is between the coach batteries and the converter and DC Distribution Panel. JM2...

Thanks guys, I have a more knowledgeable guy coming over later today so these ideas will definitely give me some starting areas.

My unit is a 2001 Damon Escaper 39' with a 350 cummins. I installed (4) new house batteries this past summer too.
