How do you deal with a slide with no topper?

We are looking at getting a Newmar Bay Star and one of the things we don't like is the passenger side slide doesn't have a slide topper and instead has an awning over it. We don't like to use the awning unless we need the shade or it's raining. We assume we'd have to add "clean top of slide" to our checklist for when we get ready to leave but wondered if there were any great ideas on that!

Thanks!

Is it a manual or electric awning?
If electric it is not a lot of work to push a button.

Is there room to add a slide topper. If so that should fix the problem.

I am not a fan of slide toppers on any of my 3 slides and therefore I have none. I have a 6" diameter convex inspection mirror on an extension pole that can inspect the top of the slides. Takes about 2 minutes to check and then we close them.

I don't think Newmar ever puts a topper over that slide due to the awning. Not sure I could install one on mine unless I removed the awning in lieu of the slide topper. I inspect mine if we are in a site with trees or other things that might fall on top. I rarely use the awning, as a matter of fact I have never used it. There are some that just put the awning out far enough to cover the slide although I am not sure how they do that.

I'm with you. I wish we had a awning on that slide. We find that we don't get to use the Girard awning much due to wind and we never leave it out when we are gone. I found a photo of an identical rig to ours on RV Trader, with an awning installed on that slide. It also had the Girard awning, so i know it can be done. I would also like to add a window awning on the slide. I love the other two that we have.

when we had a MH with no slide toppers i got tired of climbing on the roof to sweep them off,so i bought a cheap electric leaf blower and some PVC pipe to make an extension to adapt to the end of it with an elbow at the tip of it.then all i had to do is walk along the ground and blow it off.

Slide toppers are a complete waste IMHO if the slide is designed properly.

Many 5th wheel residential models do not have slide toppers.

Ours failed years ago and we did not replace it.

We live in Florida, so leaves are not an issue here.

Have to sweep off acorns when we travel north but that is not a big deal.

Well, I have bith a topper and an awning, but it's not a Newmar Baystar either. Still, I see no real problem with having both if you want a debris shield. If you don't mind the inspection and occasional clean-off routine, do as those people have suggested. If you do mind, as the topper. It's not hard (I would DIY), and there is no inherent reason not to have both. Cost if the only factor.

Same deal here on my Newmar. I have, on occasion opened the awning just enough to cover the slide roof. Most of the time, we just open the awning fully. In the case of inclement weather, that slide is optional anyway. We have gone on trips where we didn't even open that slide. The larger living room slide gave us enough room to be comfortable.

Newmar seems to delete the topper on slides that can be covered with the patio awning, a lot.
I was recently parked beside a 2006 MADP that didn't have a topper over livingroom passenger side slide.

If you can add a slide topper I would. Our MH has both the awing and a slide topper. Years ago we had a 5th wheel without slide toppers, we had them added and ou could feel a temperature difference besides keeping it clean. Putting out the awning a little each time you set up to cover the slide works andjust another item on the check list. The electric awning is a wonderful addition to the rving world but we never leave it out when we are gone or in wind.

I would definitely add the slide topper! Our MH has the awning over the slideout also, but there are many times we have the slide out but not the awning!

Probably cannot add. On mine there's no room to add it with the awning directly above.

The Foretravel Realm FS6 is a $1 million quad-slide coach with no slide toppers on any of the slide-outs.
