Off 81 to 77 south to 26 east to 95 south to Palm Coast.

All great roads.

42 ft. DP. Pulling an f-150

63 mph was very comfortable.

I have always driven 60 MPH, keeping in the right lane. I found out that our coach maintains the speed better at 62 MPH on cruise, so that's what I drive now!

65mph @ 1700 rpm is our sweet spot. ISC 8.3 Allison 3060. Gets better economy than at 55-60 mph. Makes no sense, but I stick to what works.

62 MPH seems to be the sweet spot and where I set the cruise on interstates. 55 - 60 MPH on secondary roads and of course, slower if road conditions deteriorate. This is one of those questions: "Just because you can, should you?"

In California I cruise at 58 to 63. In South Dakota or high speed states I cruise around 65. I wont run at more than that because I am no hurry to go another 4 or 5 miles in an hours time.

Don't you get in the way going 5 mph under the limit?

60 to 62 mph here. I like to go slightly slower than the rest of the vehicles, but similar to the transport trucks. Its easier to not have to keep changing lanes if you come up on someone going a bit slower. This is applicable on multilane highways. This way Im never blocking traffic. I will usually just get in line with the transports, unless they are doing 80 mph. In Ontario and Quebec, the transports are governed to 105 kms, which is around 65mph. Im not sure about the rest of Canada. I know in Texas and other states, the speed limit can be in excess of 80 mph. I sure am not doing that in a rv. One tire blow out could be your last.

When the speed limit is 70 or 75, we go 65.
When the speed limit is 65, we usually go 62-62.
I can usually find a semi to follow....at a proper distance.

I think road conditions and the type of rig you drive dictate the speed. Reading through all the posts, 65 mph seems to be the average. It's also our average (63 -65). As I read through each post, I also looked at what each person was driving. I think it's reasonable to say that the big DP's will track a little better at higher speeds. I have some concerns when I see a Class C rental or an unknown used vehicle (being transported) is driven at 70+ mph. I know how stabile my coach is, but I also know things get a little closer to the edge of control at 70 mph.

Lastly, I think those that claim they don't want to impede traffic are just trying to justify driving too fast. I've driven the same 63 mph all over the U.S. and have never impeded traffic or aggravated anyone. As a matter of fact, I find that in those states with higher speed limits (75 & 80), many are travelling the same speed as me (cars and trucks) while some of the big trucks just stay out in the fast lane and fly.

The Malibu we tow has a 65 mph tow speed limit. I find I like to stay closer to 60-62 mph if traffic allows. In any situation, you should tow at a speed you are comfortable.

Towing our Road Warrior toy hauler we usually run around 65. Considering we tow 45 foot 5th wheel that weighs around 21k lbs, I drive what I feel comfortable with. I generally drive looking at the tach and try to keep it under 2000, for better fuel mileage.

Figuring a 400-mile day, the difference between a steady 65 and a steady 75 is less than an hour. We shoot for 68 on level ground and slow uphill some and speed up downhill some.

It's where we're comfortable.

Went out to Kansas from Virginia in a hurry last June. Two days out, three days there, two days back. Ran 65 max on the way out. Ran 70 some on the way back. Fuel mileage suffered some on the return trip. The DP didn't really care what speed. Handled well even at 75. Since then, I've throttled back to 60 as a preferred max speed. Better MPG, better ride, more relaxed, more quiet, and a little safer as well. I stay in the right lane. Haven't had a problem with traffic backing up behind. They seem to adjust and just go around. I'll run 55 on the 55 posted roads but go a little under if there are traffic lights.

I'm another 63-65 mph traveler. If the speed limit is 65 or 80, I stay in my comfort zone. My tires are rated for 81 mph, but they will never see that speed as long as I'm driving. Maintaining the speed limit is not mandatory, it's the maximum legal limit. Anything below that is legal unless otherwise posted.
