How many folks bought their MH because of their dog ( or cat)?

I retired in January and my wife and I wanted to start taking long overdue vacations. However, neither one of us were willing to leave our dog behind. That being said we decided to buy our first RV so we could take our dog with us.
I’m guessing that there are quite a few people who bought their RV’s for the same reason.

So how much of a role did your pet have in your decision to buy an RV?

We traded our 17' Type B MH in on a 25' Type C as the two dogs took over the couch in the smaller rig.
Present rig is 45' and I have seven cats that go with me. Still have to share a chair, couch or bed with them.

I still work. With two standard poodles, and no nice kennels closer than two hours away, taking any last minute or even long weekend trips was very hard to impossible. My work doesn't allow many standard vacations.

We got the RV so we can take weekend or long weekend mini vacations and just take the dogs with us. Our dogs were a big part of both getting an RV and the size/model we picked.

Our cat does not board well. We don't dare try and fly with him. And, despite his agreeable nature we don't want to ask our nearby friends and relatives to take care of him for more than a week. So, yes, we decided to get a motorhome so we could take long trips- and the cat comes along.

Or, perhaps the cat takes long trips, and we're the chauffeurs. ;-)

A number of years ago, we brought out the tent equipment to enjoy camping at the annual EAA fly-in called Sun N' Fun. We then took our dog with us on trips to Ft. Wilderness. I stayed in camp...my wife went to the parks. Then Disney posted a new pet policy...you must have a hardsided camper with air conditioning. So, we bought a fifth wheel for our dog.

The motorhome replaced the fifth wheel a couple of years ago...but that was for US! Our dogs eat dey food...so they don't care about the large residential refrigerator. They sleep on the floor, the King bed is all for us. We do leave the tv or radio on for them when we go out, sometimes...so I guess they enjoy that upgrade somewhat.

We did......

We were avid ocean cruisers. Pup(s) always went into the kennel.

In the middle of the Atlantic, Angie & I looked at each other and said we missed our dog and bought our 1st motor home shortly after..........

We love having him with us! He travels well and enjoys being with us as much as we love having him with us.

Our dog was a major factor in buying an RV for travel. Don't trust kennels and I have him on a very controlled diet and vaccination regimen so some kennels won't take him anyhow. Other factors were our own bed every night, our own shower, our own toilet, etc. Also, if you exclude the cost to buy, it's actually less money to tour in the RV because there are minimal restaurants and no hotels.

The biggest limitation with a dog is sightseeing and the national parks. Almost all Canadian Parks don't allow dogs so you need to be careful when planning a trip. So far, we have worked around this restriction pretty good.

Ditto. Been camping since 1970 and have always had a dog/s. Always go with us and having the RV just makes that more easy. Don't like motels anyway.

We did not have a dog when we first starting RVing. But the current motorhome floorplan selection was made with our Yorkie going with us in the decision making.

Well for the cost of RV we could stay at about 5 .....5 Star resorts every year, all inclusive etc. But as you said have to leave the pets at home , kennels, etc,...then after 5-6 days we start to miss them and want to go back home .....so We purchased a RV so they can travel with us [emoji736] I also built a out door pet pen so as cats they can get outside and sleep at night save and sound any time they wantClick image for larger version
