How many folks services their own DP motorhome?

Just wondering how many people service their own motorhomes? Is it too hard to do, you just don't want tackle all the mess of all oil and getting rid of the oil? Maybe not having the mechanical skills doing it. Myself I am so old 72 and don't want the mess and have problems getting around.
Thanks

Don't know how, don't think I could if I did know, and too old to care.

X2 ..... At my age, I'd rather give someone else the cash to do it for me whilst I sip on a beer.

If you don't, or can't, DIY the cost is pretty high.

At 63, I'm still a youngster That said, I farm my maintenance out. Sure, i can save some bucks, but I have better things to do with my time. I spent my youth doing all sorts of maintenance, including a diesel much larger than you'll find in any motorhome. Now, I'd rather golf.

I do as much of my own as possible.
Oil change and chassis lube is pretty easy.
AND if gives me a chance to look under the rig to see if anything looks unusual.

There is a valve that you can buy for $20 which replaces your oil drain plug.
So it is super easy to drain the oil into 1 gal jugs.
Unscrewing the oil filter, filling the new filter with oil and screwing it back on is also easy. Any oil change place, most autparts stores, and the hazardous waste disposal place will take your oil for free.

I just can't se paying money to have something like this done when I can do it. Also, taking a car in for a oil change is a hassle because you usually have to wait. Taking a RV is a much bigger hassle. Then you have the new kid who puts in too much oil and ruins your engine

Plus I can't play golf, and don't watch sports...I am a tinkerer at heart.

Regards,

Dan (Mr Cheap...)

self service

You got that one right. When I was 27 yrs old I owned a Ford WT1000 twin screw tractor with a Cummins 250 and change my own oil and filters and dump 48 qts of oil with the luberfiner, starters and anything that I couls handle myself. That was then, and this is now, I pay.

Being north of 70 I found I was spending more time checking to make sure they in fact
did a correct service and always found problems, I just do my own.

I do as much as I can. If it has the potential for an expensive foul up do to lack of knowledge I'll let someone who knows what they are doing handle it.

I am 77 and do the work myself but I have a nice RV driveway and cover by the side of the house The work included greasing, oil changes, minor mods, floor repair and in the fall I will replace front oil seals and check wheel bearings. Will also perform front brake inspection. A few months ago I repaired the dash air. As I get older I get slower and slower but still able to do it.

I did on the previous two, and when we get the Magna back from Cummins I'll do it too. There's nothing magical about a DP.

I service everything I own, if you want it done right you do it yourself. Retired service oil heavy construction, still like to get my hands dirty. Yes there are some things I can't do but when it comes to oil, I got it.
Had my valves adj at Peterson Cat plus they ran the ECM cost $400 but I got it ready by removing the mirrors bolts in the floor and cleaning the top of the motor took about 4hrs. At $125 an hour I think I save $500.00 that buys a few gallons of fuel

I enjoy doing this stuff. I like the challenges of doing little upgrades and tweeks.

Over the years I've accumulated most of the tools and skills needed to do just about anything on the MH. Great educational opportunities with the grandkids when they climb under and give grandpa some help.
