I have a new to me Cat C7 300Hp 2006 Bounder. I took it in to SpeedCo to have a service. They could only find one fuel filter. They said that sometimes this engine has two but they could not find a second. They only one they could find was associated with the water separator. Is there another one and where?
Thanks.

It would be real unusual on a diesel to have one fuel filter. Normally the first fuel filter is a 30 micron filter and can be part of the water/fuel separator. Most times not mounted on the motor. The second filter is a 5 or 10 micron and is normally on the motor.

My C7 330 HP has one filter and it is a two micron. Easy to get to and easy to replace. This is on a Feightliner chassis. If I remember correctly all the other diesels I have had did have two filters - usually a 30 micron for filtering out the larger particles and then a 5 or so for the next filter.

You didn't say what chassis you have, but Freightliner did use only one fuel filter for a short while. However, I thought that was pre-2004. If you have two, the secondary filter shoud be mounted on the engine.

The fuel filters are fitted by the coach builder so it might have 1 or 2. I don't know about Cummins but for CAT the secondary filter (or primary if only one) is required to be 2 micron.
Location of the filter(s) is determined by the coach builder. On many coaches you just have to look hard. Safari made it easier....
If you have a Freightliner chassis, call (800)FTL-HELP and have the last six digits of your VIN handy. They can tell you how many filters and where they are on YOUR coach. Then, join Access Freightliner for free (takes a few days) and have access to all info on your chassis.
Here's an earlier thread about relocating the secondary filter from the top of the engine (C7) to the rear near the primary filter: Relocated Fuel Filter & Added Priming Pump It contains some pictures that illustrate where the secondary filter would be found on the engine.
