How many of you drove away in a used MH, and had none or almost NO problems???

Super excited, but scared pantless. Mainly cause I have read the horror stories... "My new MH was in the shop for 9 months"... or "My used MH fell to pieces within one second of leaving the lot."

Horror stories are easy to write about... and so there are more of them.

But how many folks bought a used DP MH, and came out unscathed? And what year and model is that girl?

We purchased a then 10 year old MH from a private seller. We had absolutely no problems of any sort for more than six months. With machines this complicated things will break, but so far the costs have been manageable IMO.

Mine was three model years old and had 18K miles. We've had it about 8.5 years and about 72K miles.

We had a few problems but we had gone over and under the RV with a fine tooth comb. We knew there were things to fix on a coach that was 17 yrs old at the time we bought it. There will always be something that needs looking after, always something to fix or replace. It is a house that also has a very large engine.

I guess if you want to nit pick then having to replace the microwave/convection oven and inverter was the most expensive thing. We were going to replace the inverter anyway so it was not that unexpected when they went out. The previous owners had replaced both but the microwave was 1600 watts and the inverter was only 1500 watts. We did not catch the problem with not having enough watts to power the microwave when we got it but it was not something that was trip stopping/interrupting.

We bought ours last April. The agreed-upon repairs/replacements have taken many weeks, mostly because the service dept. allowed our MH to sit idle while they worked on walk-in, cash-paying customers.

Bought my 2005 Airstream 396 XL 39' diesel pusher site unseen after a lot of pictures and talking to the dealer and others. I was in Houston TX the MH was in Lake View NJ. I flew up in March, warm here in Houston, freezing cold with snow in Lake View NJ. Spend 4 hours going through the coach with the tech and a short drive around the block on the 1st day. I had planned on spending about 3 days before heading home, but colder weather was forecast with ice and sleet. I took off driving South the next day. Oh did I mention I had never driven something this big before. I have never had a problem. Good research and input from others and an honest dealer made a big difference. Be cautious and eyes wide open, ask a lot of questions and get input from others on this forum. Good luck

New mh's have problems and so does used ones. For us, we buy used for the savings($200,000). You can fix a whole lotta stuff with that kind of savings. Our mh was bought from a friend and fellow club member and I knew how it was taken care of. This means a lot with a purchase of this size. I've got my eye on another mh and when they sell it I'll be there when they decide to sell or trade. This one is also immaculate and stored inside and has the equitment and colors we want. As with any purchase, do your reaserch yourself.

Bought mine, 1999 winn chieftain 36 DP from internet out of greeville sc. drove back to new jersey with out any trouble. had 78K miles. since then replace injector pump and alternator but now have 120K miles. only paid $38K three years ago.

We bought our 2005 Itasca Horizon last January (2013) with 31k miles on it. We now have 45k miles on it. We had a problem with one slide out; but, it was quickly repaired. Other than that, just the normal little day-to-day RV things. Things do wear out occasionally.
BTW, we bought a four year extended warranty with ours; and, it paid the $1100 bill for the slide out repair. I recommend buying the warranty!

MHs are machines. It's a crap shoot. That's why lots of folks buy extended warranties, and some use them, and some don't, and some self-insure.
