How Motorhomes Age?

So I’m posing this question and I hope I can convey what I’m trying to get at. Looking at a 10-15 year old motorhomes and it’s quite clear that the interiors are very dated and for the most part not very appealing. In my opinion RV interiors back in the day did not reflect residential styling. Today’s interiors look much more like a residential home. So my question. In 10-15 years we will look back at the current models with the same ‘what were they thinking’ viewpoint as some of the older models today? Hope that makes sense. Fire away.

Even houses from 10-15 years ago are considered "dated". I do think the models in the last 5 years or so have a better more homey look to them because Full Timing is so much more popular.

And most certainly I don’t want to offend anyone....not all coaches are created equal. It’s just most of these new coaches look like a modern home.

We have a 2016 with maple cabinets. The inside is not much different than something from the 1970’s. I noticed a sticker inside a basement door that says something to the effect of the design being owned by Fleetwood. The design was dated much earlier than the model year. My best guess is that modern design is a “look” much like a classic or antique.

This is a basic marketing strategy for the RV industry. Interiors are constantly being updated to get the consumer to want to upgrade to the next latest model.

Older, classic styles that withstand the test of time always have fans like me who don't care for more transitory modern "fashions". Remember when avacado appliances and shag carpet were considered modern?

Just like automobiles. Look at a 10 year old car and most of the time, would we buy something that looks like that today?

Most people would choose a 2019 Porsche over a 2009 if given a choice!

Hopefully you are not implying you have this in your RV?

Look at some 20 yr old Newell's on YouTube yes they could be considered dated but they are very opulent even by today's standards

So do newer coaches mirror current residential trends better than say a 15 year old coach during its time?

I do not make choices based on what other people like.

Back in the 70s I thought a Honda was an ugly car. Year later I wondered why so many loved their old Honda.

There is something beautiful about an old cheap car that keeps running and running.

I like my old HR and even older Islander sailboat because of the quality wood work. It will never be 'dated'.

Somethings do not age well like carpeting and televisions. $100 buys a bigger TV and replacing the carpeting does not cost more.

The key to putting the home in MH is to add personal touches like family pictures. The beautiful designer bedspread that came with our MH is stored under the bed and the one on our bed when we had a house has replaced it.

It may be old but we like it.

Yes...most definitely! Most of today's interior designs will become outdated and out of fashion. Consequently, purchasers of older rigs have two choices....embrace the older design and just repair/enhance as desired or spend the $$$$ to remodel. We ended up purchasing a newer (and costlier) MH because we didn't want the older oak cabinet models with extensive carpeting and didn't want to get into the cost of replacing carpeting. And, our Bay Star with darker wood cabinets is already dated, but that doesn't bother us.

Design trends are a great marketing device to get folks to buy new stuff!
