I also have my RVND 7715 mounted on the drivers window. It is easily accessible there and stays up there really well. Only bad thing is that I have to remove it to open that window. It is easy to remove, however, so that is no big deal.

I have had the Rand for 18 months and it has never taken me on a bad route.

I use the smooth disc that comes with the gps unit, and simply place it where it is most convenient. Never had a gps unit fall off the dash yet, including a trip to Alaska and a Maritimes Caravan.

Yup, it's all in how one configures the unit. The closest-route and least-fuel settings WILL use dirt roads.
