Hello Everybody,

My wife and I are planning our new life, full timing.
We have been reading and searching everything we can learn prior to our purchase of our coach.
So I have a couple of questions.
We have decided that a 2-3 year old higher range coach will be our target.
From the advertised prices on a sites like MHSRV, what additional % discount can we expect from the posted price?
We are planning on a stacker trailer, so I would think we will be in the 15,000 lb range once we are loaded up. What is the minimum HP that you think I should be looking at, to pull 15,000lbs in a 45 ft coach.
Do you think a 450 hp has the ponies for a comfortable drive lets say in the foothills.? or should we look in the 500-600 HP range,

Check the manufacturer website for towing most have specs on older coaches. NAPA has low and average retail for the coach you decide on. It's a good place to start. Then rvtrader will give you about what they are asking also ppl motorhomes. Good luck happy hunting.

Hi Bruce, with your idea's and the weight and trailer you are wanting, 600-650 hp would be my choice, maybe even a chip for the ECM. Horse power when traveling our country make the drive a lot better in my opinion. All depends on how many pony's you want to feed

A guy I know has a 08' King Aire w/600 Cummins chipped = 720 - 730 HP

The garage/mechanic figured, He loves hills........when traveling....

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I don't think you can use any fixed percentage to expect to get off of a used rig listed for sale. It's a lot different than buying new. Good advice above on how to get a sense for what the market is on a particular model you're interested in.

I found the best way to determine the right price is to be patient. It will become self evident when a good deal arises. For example, book on my rig was about $130. Used ones were all over the map. Many used prices were dictated by what the PO OWED, not what the rig was worth. Sometimes I wondered how serious they were as sellers. After finding the model I wanted I just scoured the country for a month or two and when A good deal came up (ours was under $90K) you jumped on it. I found the book prices only meaningful to the bank.

Find the coach you want and be patient ;-)

Having pulled my #16k stacked with a 500 ISM.....there is a big difference now with the 600 ISX. Almost exactly the same fuel mileage with 25k miles on the 500 and no time on the 600.

As far as used prices I like the idea of 30% off msrp then take 10% off the balance each year of use.

We got 25% off MSRP for our Fleetwood Storm 32h. (average good deal) I'd expect and have seen 30%-40% off the high dollar models like your looking at.
450hp+ for your needs or more.
