How much insurance coverage?

Can someone tell me as a general rule, how much insurance I should be looking for? My wife and I are newbies planning on hitting the road this June. We just purchased a 2007 Bounder 35e. I realize this is a very subjective topic, but I just don't want to be too under insured or buy more than is realistic. Also does it make much of a difference if I insure the toad with the same company or not? Thank you in advance for any light that any of you can shed on this subject , Bruc.

Congrats on the Bounder. I hope you love it as much as I did mine. You don't have to insure the toad with the same co. I would not insure the MH for more than its worth as you won't get more at the time of a loss unless you have it insured for replacement and that's not generally available on a coach that's 6-7 years old.

Carry as much liability coverage as you feel comfortable with. I use different company's for coverage.

I don' tknow if there is a general rule or rule of thumb but I carry the maximum liability and medical on all my vehicles. The cars are insured through Liberty Mutual and the RV through Allied.

Hi bruc,
Do you have a catastrophic umbrella policy? If you want the coach to be included under this umbrella there are limits one needs to meet.

Have 2 million liability on coach and other vehicles as well as a 5 million umbrella policy through a Canadian Company that insures Motorhomes and coverage is good in both Countries as I am spending Winters in Florida.

As far as valuation I would insure for actual value as compared to replacement value. It should be considerably less expensive, at least it was for me. I carry $250K/$500K liability with FTers insurance.

I like my two homes, my life style, my business, my boat and all my other assets. 5 Mil should cover a full car of law suits but then again maybe not.
it a big machine and can do a lot of damage in a worst case situation. Pray for safe drive and no idiots interfere with your ride

How much do you have to protect?

As they say, can't get blood out of a turnip.

If you own nothing, the legislated minimum will suffice. Do you own property? Do you have a nice savings account, income, IRA or pension? It could all become a target for seizure in a lawsuit. You want to carry enough liability protection to insulate your personal assets from any liability judgment. That's different for every one of us.
