How Often do you Air Up Your 22.5 Tires?

So we've had our coach for a couple months now and its mostly been parked, but I noticed last week that the tires were low (low 80's) so I went and aired them up (95psi). We're going to take a trip tomorrow and I'm going around and checking the tires again and low and behold they are back down to about 83-85 PSI all the way around.

If this was one tire I'd be concerned there was a leak or something but I'd like to know if this is normal? We have the Michelin XRV tires.

Before I got a TPMS I checked them before we left on a trip and every morning while traveling.
Now the TPMS does it for me. I have to add air maybe two times a year if that.

The day prior to any trip.

Mine generally are within just a couple psi of the last time they were filled - as long as there are no big temp changes on the days tires were checked. That WILL affect readings one day vs. another.

Air them up and spray some soppy water on the valves. Look for bubbles in and around the valves. If leaking in the core, get a tool to snug them up a bit.


If your not comfortable messing with the valves, go to a tire shop for help.


Tires should only loose around 2 pounds per month.

I have TPMS and am able to check them before each trip. I find I need to top them off about once per month. Ambient temperatures will change the pressure a few psi so take that into account.

I originally would top off the tires with our coaches air compressor but this became a pia so purchased a small Viar Compressor that works great to top off the tires. Our highest pressure tire is 120 psi.

Trying to find a place to top off the tires was nearly impossible for us.

I think your tires are leaking. Mine will stay at 110 lbs for months on end. Kind of weird that all the tires are leaking the same amount though. We purchased a TPMS for the peace of mind, for the toad particularly. But I would have your tires checked out, losing 10 or so psi in a week is not normal.

I haven't put any air in our tires for two years. They are still where I set them after the 4-corner weigh-in at Gaffney 2 years ago.

If you didn't have the valve stems replaced when you bought tires, I bet they are leaking. Mine did.

It sounds like you need to either tighten the valves inside the stems, which can be done with a valve stem tool(about 3-5 $) or you just may need new tire valves. The will cost at least $25 per tire. Lots of labor dismounting and remounting tires to do it. If you have those braided valve extensions, they could also be suspect.

Tires of this size are going to change pressure rather quick due to temperature swings. I used to have 18 on the ground for 5 million miles. You will get accustomed to it soon.

When in the garage and not in use my tire pressures will fluctuate up to 5 psi only due to the weather changes.

I agree with others who say you have leaks. Most likely in the valve stems.

I keep 95 across the rear axle and 105 in the front. One morning before a trip I checked pressure and one inside dual was 35. I aired it up and took it to a tire center and found out the valve stem nut had come loose from the rim and that's where the leak was.

Check them out. What you have is not normal.

And remember, never, never add air to hot tires meaning tires you have driven on during the day. Only "cold" tires in the morning.

Yep, 5psi fluctuation if there is a decent temp change is what I see

I haven't added air to my tires since I got my rig in January. The tire pressure varies 3 to 5 psi depending on ambient temperature, but the tires all stay roughy the same psi relative to each other. It would be odd to have all tires leaking at the same time.
