My Xantrex 1000 is out and trying to figure if it's worth repairing -- do very little dry camping. Maybe a Rally.

It's nice on the road to make coffee without starting the genset. We do more dry camping over a quick weekend so we do use it a lot there.

I had a 1000 watt Xantrex inverter that stopped working so I took it to a Xantrex repair place. They told me that by time you got a couple of hours labor and some parts, it would would almost be cheaper to buy a new one.

I have since upgraded to a 1500 watt Xantrex that we use a lot while spending a good part of the winter boondocking in the Arizona desert.

thnx All for the quick response. I'll be testing this out next month with about a 6 week 4,000 mi. trip, sooooo..
if I upgrade to the 1500 or 2000, do you think i can do a straight wiring swap? Did you do your own install? This one also has a remote switch on the main panel.

i'm full timing, i use it most time everyday. i only turn it off before i go out or go to bed.
(my bedroom tv is on 12v and all gizmos in entertainment center are on 12v).

Only have ever used it if the kids want to play video games or watch a DVD on the television while on the road.

But, they rather watch on their tablets or phones anyway, so virtually NEVER!

I did my own install. I upgraded to the 1500 watt so I could run the microwave. I also upgraded the wire between the batteries and the inverter(about four feet) to 2/0 from 4 gauge. I also installed a remote switch. I dont use my inverter as a "whole house" inverter, but have the three circuits for the outlets in the motorhome, plus the circuit the microwave plugged into the inverter. I also use the auto transfer switches that go with the Xantrex ProWatt Pure Sine Wave Series inverters.

My inverter is on everytime I turn off the key so it can run the fridges. I don't even think about it.

Lost power at the campsite last week, and other than I noticed it getting hot inside because no AC, I never noticed we lost power (TV on, wife using convection oven, fridge on).

Be sure you have reason to upsize, because it will require larger wire size and more batteries to get the same duration. it's a vicious cycle

I have a residential fridge and a 2800 watt sinwave inverter. While on the road the fridge is running at 110V so the AGM's are working and being charged by the alternator. Also nice to have coffee and microwave on the road.

Just got one with my new MH and used it first time out when park power went out and didn't want to crank the gen due to the time. Just had to finish watching a movie.

We use ours a lot when traveling, we find a wayside to park for a quick meal, run the antenna up and turn on the tv to catch the news. We also boondock once in a while, the last time we were with friends who didn't order the inverter when they ordered their new motorhome and we were all relaxing in front of the tv and all of a sudden my friend asked me how I got my generator to run so quietly. His wife jumped all over him on that one, she said "he's got a inverter, you know, that thing you said we didn't need!"

In hot weather, seldom, cuz the gen set is running, but in cool weather, always and since it's used for most everything, while going down the road and stopping for lunch maybe. Even with an RV, fridge, why bother with using propane.
Best place to buy a new one, seems to be on Amazon or maybe eBay.
