How often do you sanitize fresh water tank?
I'm just curious, how often do you guys sanitize your fresh water system? I use my RV fairly frequently, and I completely drain the tank and re-fill with new water before each use. I'm just wondering how often I should be going through a sanitization process...

I do mine the first of the season, after that as long as I am using it regular I don't concern myself with it. We don't normally drink from it so it is not as critical to us. If we do we run it through one of those nozzle filters.

Once a year in the Spring. We only use it to flush toilet, etc. while traveling. Only carry about 30 - 40 gallons.

I have only sanitized my fresh water system twice in 14 years.
Once when the coach was new to me in 2001 ...and again in 2012, (11 years later).
BTW, like you, I completely drain the tank if the coach is not going to be used for awhile and then re-fill with new water before the next trip......and like Bigd9, we use the tank water for everything.

Once in the spring. We use the tank water for everything and very rarely use bottled water.

Once a year during de-winterization. We normally drink bottled water. But use MH water for cook, dishes, shower, etc..

When you guys do your sanitation routine, do you use bleach as suggested by the owners manual, or one of the commercially available sanitizers that I have seen advertised?

IMO, the "commercially available sanitizers" are nothing more than "bleach in a RV package"... sold for a RV, (aka: higher), price.

I do mine in the spring before first use, and usually drain the tank when home. If I do have water sitting for a while (a few weeks) in hot weather I may sanitize again.
I use bleach as recommended in the owners manual. I don't see any reason for paying more for another product that does the same thing.

Once only in the spring. Start with bleach, run through all the lines, till I smell the bleach, let set for 10-20 minutes, drain it. Then due the same process again, only I use vinegar to get rid of the bleach smell. Good to go for all summer. Been using this same method for over 30+ years.

We leave the fresh tank alone until we smell or taste something odd. We also drink the water from the fresh tank (never buy bottled tap water).

Bleach. I add about one cup for 20 gallons. Your system may recommend differently.
