How to find open campground in winter

We're thinking about going south in February and would need to find open campgrounds starting in Cleveland heading south on I 77 to Florida. Is there any easy was to get a list of parks?

Thanks,
Ed

we did the same thing for the last two winters, except we went to Florida from Ky. No problems all the way down. Plenty of open campgrounds. Once in Florida we really didn't have any problems finding campgrounds, but some are full. You may have to call ahead a week or so just to be sure, but we didn't have any problems. This year we are headed out Nov. 5th to snowbird until April. We made this reservation last year once we found the right campground for us, now that we are retired. Good luck.

Use Reviews of RV Parks and Campgrounds - RV Park Reviews to locate campgrounds along your planned route and check their websites for operating times.

Woodall's and good sam publish campground lists. We used good sam's website to help us research she going from Ma to Fl the end of last February . Still needed to do a fair amount of web searching, but looking at good sam to see reviews made us decide what places were worth a follow up. On our route it seemed like a lot of KOA campgrounds we're year round, so keep an eye out for those. Good luck and safe travels.

Cleveland you may just want to Wally-Dock for a night. Once you get to the other side of Kentucky you stand a good chance of finding open campgrounds.

Since you have a couple (3 at least) months, take some old advice and let your fingers do the walking.. Start with your keyboard... Google "Camping ST" where ST is the 2 letter state code, or Camping along I-75 in ST. (Best option)

Then visit the assorted web pages and find out if they post a open/close schedule.

Then telephone.

Best options.

I know places in South Carolina are open but alas, that's not on I-75,, But it is where I park (usually) in the winter.. This winter I'm stuck in GA, still not on I-75 (3 miles off I-95)

But once you are at least a day south of Cleveland you may find things improve.

Also.. IF you belong to a faternal orgination (I belong to the MOOSE, another is ELKS) many of them have lodges that offer limited RV facilities... Lily KY (London Lodge) offers 20 amp electric, that is enough to run my battery charger and that in turns powers everything I absolutly need inside the RV (TV, Furnace, microwave)

That is about a day south of Clevelend. And one fun drive (Ky backroads are ..... narrow, steep and twisted) but a nice lodge.
(The gate is, however, locked most of the time, you need the combination to get in).

This is not a campground however, You can fill your fresh water tank, you can get 20 amps, you can even dump your waste tanks if you have enough hose (i do, just) but it's not a real campground.. And OTA TV, is basically non existent there. (So carry recordings).

My next stop after that is usually another wally dock

And after that Seneca or Fair-Play SC (My regular winter home) but clearly Ive gone off I-75.. This last winter I did things a bit different.

First stop was pre-cleveland
Second Viola TN (Supermarket lot)
Third night Seneca (Destination) fastest I've ever made the trip.

Thanks to everyone for the info. I now have homework to do. The motorhome is stored in a heated commercial building a few miles from our house. They have a bay where you can prep the motorhome and pack for your trip. We'll be looking for a dry spell to head south.

Ed
