How to sell RV

Has anyone used one of those companies that advertise in the back pages of motorhome magazine?
They'll come to you, and buy your motorhome outright.
We're seriously considering selling our mh, but do not want to list it on craigs list etc.

Anyone with an idea of how we can sell it without fuss and muss, please post. Any and all ideas appreciated.

If money isn't a concern, then sell to one of those companies, even Camping World, for trade-in value. You'll lose a lot of money compared to selling it privately, but there will be no hassle...unless you owe money, then you could be upside down, and that's another pill to swallow.

Craigslist has been the best way to sell for us, because those that are interested are close to us, and we can tell scammers a mile away, since a scammer won't come see the coach.

RVtrader.com is another resource, but it costs money and is nationwide, and your coach isn't something that people will fly in to look at....there are too many close to them.

You could also ask one of us that lives close to you to assist with the sale; somebody that likes doing that kind of thing. Just post your location and ask for help.

Thanks for the informative reply.
We own it outright, no worries about paying off a loan.

Having title in hand, and having a newer unit that can get financed easily makes things easy for you.

Do you really care how much money you get for your unit? You can go to RVTrader and find similar units in order to get a price range, and you can go to NADA RV pricing in order to find out what average wholesale and retail are.

Armed with that knowledge, you can see what the back-page people offer and whether it's a rip-off or acceptable to you.

These are good ideas, thank you.
We've traded in cars & rv's, never sold one outright.

Two things to keep contacts to a minimum: Price and Description.

You get price by doing what was suggested earlier. Take the lowest-priced units and used that as your price. Shoppers will pick up on a good price.

Write a detailed description and include a screen shot of the sales page if you can. Take a lot of good pictures of what would be important to buyers, After removing most of your personal belongings from the unit.

Good photos and a decent description are key ingredients.

Qualify buyers by how they use the language and what questions they ask. If in doubt, ask things like their zip and city. If they respond property, that's good. If questions are geared to, "I want your item and will send a man to pick it up after giving Cashier's Check to you", just laugh and sign off.

It can be a game, and since you hold the prize in hand, you have the power.

All good info. Although we are really leaning toward not selling it ourselves, to a private buyer.

Then simply do some research, and take it to a local RV dealer (the one you bought it from?) and do a deal. They might offer consignment instead of a cash price, or both.

The ones in the back of magazines that you referenced might not be close to you, so they'll factor in the cost to move the unit to their lot, and take it off the offered price.

RaynMary,

In 2014, we consigned our 2008 Monaco Dynasty in Nacogdoches, TX, at a nice consignment shop. We drove our coach 432 miles from West TN, dropped it off in Nacogdoches and continued onto California in the car.

The consignment shop charged an 8% fee which I thought was very reasonable. They washed and cleaned it up, marketed it on their site with great pics and the Dynasty sold in 90 days.

Good luck!
Mark

Those companies that offer to buy your RV outright are looking for a fire sale price!

I would advertise it in the free Classifieds here on IRV2 and on RVTrader.com. Put lots of pics on RV Trader! I would put the following statement in all ads: "I can only accept a direct transfer of funds between your bank and mine, NO EXCEPTIONS". That's the only safe way to do it!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Thank you. If we sell that way, that is excellent info.

Almost all the larger dealers will give you the wholesale price

If you purchased it at a good price it might work for you

There is a lot of interest in small class A's like the Vegas at the moment I suspect it will be very easy to sell. If you don't want to deal with it yourself I would suggest trying one of the big consignment dealers, unfortunately the nearest one to you is probably PPL in Texas (they now have a location in the DFW metroplex).
