After months of looking I think we found the one. I almost gave up hope, after seeing so many disappointing rigs, but we put a deposit on a 2004 Newmar Mountain Aire 4018 on a Freightliner chassis. Really was looking at Dutch Stars but going one step up cant be bad.
2004 Newmar Mountain Aire MADP4018 Priced at $ 79500
They sent me a bunch of pics and maintenance records.
They are giving it a 8 out of 10 rating.
Everything is in working order or they will have it fixed.
Tires are 2015 with automatic front wheel balancers(they are checking what brand that is)
no water damage or side paint checking(we will see).
65k miles on the Cummins ISL 400 w/Freightliner chassis and 1012 hours on Power Tech 8k
Just called Newmar and they are emailing me a build sheet with what options it was ordered with(They were so nice and emailed me quick)
This is a floor plan we like, colors we like and has the options we wanted with Hydronic zone heating.
NADA says 62k-74k no options selected, and I see other modles like this with higher asking price and do not have Hydronic zone heating.
Its a 8 hour drive for us, so we are going down this Sunday and doing our inspections on Monday. I told the salesmen I will be there 3-4 hours looking and checking everything, bringing my scan tool and test equipment. He said no problem and sleep in it if you want. Going to spend the night
So any advice on any areas that need extra attention for this year and model? Im a diesel mechanic and Gary has drove big trucks for yeas so we know that we can do a good TI but if there are certain know areas of problems you may know I can add them to a list to check. Only thing Im not super informed about is the Hydro-Hot Hydronic zone heating so going to do a search on here to get info on how to test. It has a hot water tank too, but why if it has Hydronic?
One of the stuff that was fixed according to the maintenance records for July 2016 was engine over heating. Paperwork states head gasket repair, change thermostat, fan speed controller, and coolant sensor repair at a 9K bill. Owner had a extended warranty so shows 100 deductible. The work was done at then same place that is selling it so I can probably find out a lot more info when we get there. Salesmen said they always had it under warranty and promptly made repairs and services at their dealer ship. Owners traded it in on a new rig.
Any info or advice would be great. Taking the next few days to gather info to do inspections on Monday. Got a good feeling this one is the one, its what we have been looking for, but prepared to walk away, again, if not.
Thanks,
Jen
