With OAT's in the 40's-50's, there is no need to run a diesel any longer than it takes to bring the slides in, the suspension up and the air pressure up to the kick off point. This is the decision time. Do you want to be considerate of the other campers around you and start moving or do you want to be a PIA and pi** them off? A diesel engine is just a mass of steel and aluminum that is well lubricated and could care less if it is idling or running at 1500 rpm to move away from others who may still be sleeping. It is actually better to be moving slowly because the transmission is then warming along with the engine. If you are of the old school and are unwilling to change your idea of a warm up, then stop someplace away from others and do your thing. I have had more than one diesel mechanic tell me the above procedure is a very good way to get things up to operating temps. The only change would be starting up with OAT's in the teens, but then their advise was to drive slow till the temp is up to 150*. At that point it's good to go.

It is always funny how most people just want everyone else to do something different for their comfort.
I would ask that you all get up earlier and this "starting an engine" thingy won't be an issue.
I thank you.

Block heaters work wonders and all it takes is the flip of a switch the nite before departure.

In other words, everyone who wants to sleep in late should get up early so that the guy who wants to run his engine needlessly won't have to feel he is bothering anyone.

I would ask that people wanting to run their diesel for 10-30 minutes get up later and this "starting an engine" thingy won't be an issue.
I thank you.
Fixed that for you.

this stuff is comical to me.....the lengths people go to make sure they're irritated. Makes me want to idle my truck from now on. See if I can't get some blood pressures up around the campground.

Well, hopefully you're kidding. Being rude and/or obnoxious to your camping neighbors is just asinine and childish.

It's called consideration for others.

Engine off, drop the toad. Engine on, back into the spot, engine off. Plug in electric, then slides, jacks, and bookkeeping with engine off.
Then complain when you have to replace your starter, turbo, batteries, relays, etc. The fuel burned is cheap!

I was joking folks, please calm down.
I will make sure to not upset you in a campground if at all possible.
We may have identified the problem here.......

With an Entegra, you have to get it up to ride height before you put in slides - so yes, that does take a bit of time to do that. Usually around 3-5 minutes. If someone really gets annoyed at that time ... then sorry ... but, I'm not driving off with my slides out and not being at ride height, even if it does wake you up. Just go back to sleep!

Just to be curious, but what is an acceptable time to start the engine to leave?
