My diesel does not smell. A good thing about the newer emissions controls. Most any are loud at quiet early morning hours...

Idling a diesel is simply a waste of fuel and an unnecessary thing to do. Some people just don't get it. It's not just diesel pushers, either. The guys with the big diesel pickup trucks for their fifth wheeler/toy hauler are louder and seem to want to idle more than the motorcoach guys from my experience. Just one of those things that I don't let bother me when it happens. No sense letting idiots ruin my day!

Engine Warm-up
Idling the engine for warm-up is not necessary. When oil pressure is indicated, put motorhome in motion. Operate with a light throttle and limited RPM until coolant temperature reaches approximately 150 degrees F.

Would be sensible to follow if his engine was an ISC and the chassis was already aired up.
However, his engine is not an ISC and his Eagle is not aired up if it has been sitting for a while.

It would take My 6CTA 8.3 45 minutes from a fresh startup to reach 150deg,sitting.
Yes My Cummins 8.3 6CTA--450 HP is 24 years old with a few new parts in the past 16 years I've owned it.
With 5 Gal of Oil and 15 Gal of Coolant it takes the old beast much longer to warm up. Ridiculing someone for caring about what they do or have I'm sure is not in the Spirit of this Forum.
Do you realize the amount of pressure that's in your Oil Filter and how much less the Flow there is for the first 10 to 15 min or so?
If someone is comfortable warming in 4- 10 - or 15 minutes, So What is the big deal?
My Engine has always been cold natured even with my Trailer on the back it Runs 190 deg all day.
Oh! And referring to people that do take their time as "Idiots" only show's what kind of people that You are !

Our diesel fire equipment is stored in a fire house plugged in 24/7 and also plugged into a air supply 24/7............
Engines warm and all aired up............ready for action.

Ahh, like a warm summer day at the old campground, except for the air pressure.
Our Airport CFR trucks were electric compressor equiped but the local FDs just maintaned the batteries.

You are correct and not. I have been on a fire department for 12 years and all of our trucks are "plugged in".
But not a block heater. Just air and a trickle charger!
It appears this is just our department?

Yes, it does smell. And, only diesels are loud in the early morning (plus all day). The gas coaches are barely heard starting, idling or driving through the camp ground.
