Ignition - turn key (no start)

Just got the RV back after 4 weeks of having radiator rebuilt and alternator replaced.

Took a weekend trip to test it out (had a great time by the way).

On leaving, pulled a short distance to the dump station and turned off RV.

There about 15 minutes.

Ready to leave, turn ignition switch .... and nothing, no whir no noise.

Tried to figure out issue and sat for at least a half hour.

Tried to start again...and it started right up.

Not sure what "this" issue is now, but is there a some feature on DP that do not let you start up that quickly after shutting down. Is it possible something must reset itself before starting again?

We stopped part way home and had dinner at Cracker Barrel and it started right up on leaving?

Scratching our heads right now.

I'd say check all the battery connections , to make sure the shop didn't leave a connection loose ( dirty ?) because they would have had them off while working on the alternator.
Theory.
The first start up , would have heated up the connection, causing poor contact when you tried the short time re-start. When the connection was fully cooled off, it was good enough for the engine to start.

When you turned on the ignition switch did the gauges come on. Was there power to the dash. If there was you might start looking at a starter relay failure.

That happened to both the Cummins we've owned. Once when checking in to a campground with the ISC. Kept trying and it finally started. The starter gave out completely a few years later but probably not connected.
Now, with the ISX it stopped at a stop sign. Bad location but before the police or tow truck got there I was able to get it started again. In neither case was I able to figure out what happened although I'm told there was a change in the CC fuel tank and the pickup might need altering to fix it.

Had a similar issue, turned out to be a less than tight cable connection at the starter motor.

Ignition

Lights do come on at dash. Any idea where starter (or relay is located) and can we test it? Seems every time we turn around there is another issue. Starting to get quite expensive.

Some rigs have a brake switch. You must depress you brake before turing the key. If yours has this feature you may have a faulty brake switch, or it needs adjusting. Worth looking into.

IF the dash lights came on there are a couple of things that come to mind. The first is ridicuously simple. Was it in netural when you tried to start it.

Second if you have a starting relay it might be bad or have corroded contacts or loose contacts where the battery cable is on one side and the starter cable on the other.

Third. Loose or corroded cable going to the starter

fourth Bad neutral Switch

fifth starter starting to go bad.

Of course any interlock that your coach might have such as brake not being on. or stuff like that can do it.

If it did not start at one place and did the next Then try and remember what was different about the two instances. Could you have not had it in neutral, could you have not had the brake on, was the slides in or out ( usually that wont stop most coaches but different coaches have different ideas) Above all follow the advice you have been given to make sure all battery connections are clean and tight.

Update from mechanic

Called Cummins today and explained problem. Taking it back in on Tues. They feel it is the solenoid, starter or starter relay and that it happens often. Could replace the culprit component, but would be best if we replaced all....$576. I asked them to "please" make sure it is that before we keep throwing money in this MH.

When I look at what we have spent just since we got it 1 year ago, I could have taken some awesome vacations on that money and not have had this hassle. Didn't plan on rebuilding the whole thing.

Now I've vented a little and will get over it.

We will take advice given here and check cables for tightness, corrosion, etc. but this is getting to be crazy.
