I recently overnighted in an Ohio Turnpike rest area. I was quite dismayed at the amount of FOD (for lack of a better term) that was laying on the ground in the parking area. Screws, bolts, you name it.

I had that happen on a car trailer,patched it on the inside and then put a tube in it

The screwed tire is in the dual set and holds air well enough to reach a Goodyear truck tire shop 10 miles from my home. I'll see what they say about repair. I absolutely would not repair a steer tire.

The wear on the screw head is an indication of it tearing up the cords inside. If it's leaking, the air could now be working its way between the plys.

Let the experts check it but be prepared to replace.

It's possible, but I doubt it was done intentionally. I've had it happen to my pick up several times in the same general area.

That is funny, I have had many and I say many tires cold patched at tire shops and never had a problem with any of them.

I used to repair tires at one point in my life and if it were in the middle of the side wall it would be a little different. That screw is in the shoulder of the tire and a patch will work fine as long as you are not running it half flat trying to get a better ride.

Before driving it over there, why not drive that short distance in the car and show therm the photo. They may not be able to say yes from the photo, but they could be able to say no. Also easier to negotiate a price that way.

I don't know if its just bad luck or what, but the last three flat tires I've gotten had a nail or screw where the sidewall meets the tread and I had to buy a new tire all three times.

Goodyear said it is not repairable. The tire is replaced. The old one scrapped.

This was the outcome I was leaning on anyway. One might have been able to stop the leak effectively, but the chance of catastrophic failure due to cord damage is more than I can chance.

Looking at the location, I would have plugged it. Not patch it but plug it. If you do not carry a plug kit in your vehicle you should. Any higher up on the sidewall and it would not have worked but the location it was in would have not been a problem. If concerned, plug it, and use as a spare.
