Improper Class A tires?

I have a gas 38 foot Class A Newmar and coming out of Florida in June of 2010 my aging tires decided it was time to end the relationship when one blew. Through Good Sam emergency road service that tire was replaced then I followed them to the shop for the remaining tires to be replaced.

Two days ago the right rear outside blew then the inside right rear went flat as the coach sat on the coach jacks then next morning. This is the first time I really paid attention to details to get numbers off the tire to speak to the manufacturer. The tires are LT235/85R16. That's a light truck tire rated for up to one ton trucks as I have quickly come to know and should not be on the coach - or am I incorrect.

This could be an expensive blow out with having to change out all the rest!

Any one out there a tire expert?

Single rates at 3042 pounds and duels rates 2778 each I think you are correct.

What size tire does the manufacturer specify for your unit? If it's a Ford chassis for the 38' floor plan, it's rated at 26,000 gvw so 6 LT235's won't cut it.

Are your new tires the same size/brand as the old ones? The fact that you have 16" wheels on your coach limits the size and weight carrying compacity of the tries you will be able to find. Your tires should be at least load range E (80 PSI max inflation). As the OP said make sure what tire/size is specified for your coach. Also you need to weigh your coach to make sure you are not overloaded, stuff adds up quickly. As to your tires going flat, check for loose, improperly installed valve stems, cores, valve stem extensions. Also if you have air through caps on your valve stems I have had them get dirt in them causing loss of air pressure. Good luck

What ever tire you use on anything try to put Nitrogen in them, run cooler saves wear, better gas milage ,Beneffits outweight costs,used by Nascar and many truckingcompanys(but when they blow you will know it)

What is the load range for these tires? Look for an E, F, G, etc.

I love mine had it for 6 years. They are good solid coaches, although the older non-slide coaches (like mine) are starting to get a little dated interior and decal wise. But we can always remodel and paint as $$$$ allow.

That's funny!!

Every article that I've seen on nitrogen says don't bother unless you're racing the vehicle.
The ONLY thing that's better about it is that it's dry so moisture doesn't collect inside the tire.
Normal air is already 78% nitrogen anyway.

For setups with 16" tires, I believe the LT235/85R16 is the best you can do. As others have mentioned, they are 3042lbs single (meaning 6084/axle) and 2756lbs dual (meaning 11024/axle).

From a "truck" standpoint even the F450/F550 (using Ford nomenclature) trucks are considered "light" -- you have to move to the much more industrial F650 to be considered a "medium duty truck."

I use 80 percent nitrogen in my tires.. The rest is a mix of gasses.

I think you should put propane in your tires. I would give new meaning to the term 'blow out'! :-)
