Increasing Horsepower and Torgue in Ford 6.8L V10 engine

I read an article in the current MotorHome Magazine on increasing the horsepower and torque in the Ford 6.8L V10 engine. I liked what I read and I am considering purchasing the system for my Ford 6.8L V10 engine. But, first I would like to get some feedback from anyone who is using or has used this particular system.

Thanks.

Walter-

If you're looking for information on the "Five Star Tune," here's a search you can perform on iRV2 to find threads on it.

1) Navigate to the Ford Motorhome Chassis Forum (look under "RV Forums" drop-down on the green bar at the top of this page)
2) On the right-hand side of the second blue bar down, there's a drop-down called "Search this Forum." Click on that, end enter "5star" (without the quotes) in the box, then click the "Go" button.

Or, put "5star" in the "powered by Google" box near the top of this page and click the "Search" button.

If you want increased horsepower and torque, check out Banks Engineering - or trade what you have for a nice diesel coach. You can spend a lot of money doing the whole Banks thing and really not end up with too much difference at the end, IMHO.

I have the 5 star tune and it is awesome. I didn't buy it for the advertised HP and torque increases. I don't question whether these are true or not. They probably are but chances of me noticing them are pretty close to nil. The main reason for my purchase was the significantly better functioning shift points of the transmission.
There are very few, if any, people who have upgraded the V-10 to the 5 star tune and are not happy with the choice.
Don't take my opinion and do the search as indicated in a prior post.

5 star

I note your '16 install. Was this on a 6 speed tranny?
When I visit the 5 star site, they only refer to 2015 v-10's.
Thanks

Assuming you are referring to my reply. Yes I have a '16 with a '15 ford chassis

For all you guys that want to improve the 2006-2016 V-10, I say you are wasting your money. Go test drive a 97 F-53 and you won't ever complain again. Spend all the money you want but it really is just the best it can be for a gasser. It's your money though, spend it how you want.

I have the tune, I don't know how much "power" I got but the Tune fixed most of my shifting issues.

Older v10 here. 2002. 5 Star made a huge shifting and drive ability difference. More power, not so much. But I knew it was shifting betterment and not power when I bought it.

Have the Banks system and love it, really love it! I have upgraded my towed (Scion xB 2009) with a TRD cold air intake and a car back exhaust from Magna Flow (both of which change the computer) and I have experienced increased hp, torque, and mpg--and it's fun to drive! My MH will easily maintain 55 mph on cruise control up steep hills.

5 Star Tune will increase the horsepower and torque SLIGHTLY with no other modifications to your RV. It is what is known as a "stage 1" Engine Control Module tune.

Banks and others improve air flow on intake and/or exhaust side of engine and use a tune that matches the improvement in engine breathing, and are known as "stage 2".

Stage 1 = $ 500
Stage 2 = Well above $ 1000

Hope this helps. 5-Star-Tune has dyno graphs showing before and after HP and Torque, sure Banks and their competitors do, too.

I had a 5 Star tune on my previous coach (ford V10) and yes it does work. More torque and better shifting up hills. I bought a DP so I no longer need one.

bobf46,

Thank you for your feedback on our tuner on your prior coach. Hope your DP is treating you well!
