We were coming home from PA this last weekend and were stuck in a huge traffic jam due to an accident for over two hours..... I need a CB to find out when things happen on the road.
Where and how do you guys install your CB antenna's and where do you run the coax cable? The thought of drilling into my new coach gives me chills??

Any suggestions?

I had a 06 Holiday Rambler Endeavor and the best I could do without drill a hole in the side of the coach was to run coax from front to rear under the coach and attach a no ground plane antenna on the rear roof ladder. CB worked pretty well with this.

attach it to the driver side A pillar.

Get an antennae that attaches to glass - signal goes through glass to inside unit. No drilling required. See camping world.

Drilling a hole is no problem. For me, this is the best way to install a CB. Go to CB Antenna - 3' Firestik No Ground Plane Needed - iRV2.com RV Photo Gallery to see where and how I mounted the CB antenna. Go to Firestik Antenna Company Home Page and look over their choices for no ground plane antenna kits. Buy the kit. The antenna and wire must be for a no ground plane installation. You can also purchase a mount and spring from the same store.

Once installed, you'll need to do a SWR check on the antenna. Firestik antennas make this easy as they have an adjustable tip.

Before I drilled holes ect ect I'd buy a portable unit if you feel you need one. I've found they are not used much anymore. I have mine on all the time and can count on one hand when you hear anything. Truckers just don't seem to use them like they did and I've been in big traffic jams with no chatter before hand that would have helped me avoid anytyhing.

If you only want one for occasional use get one like the one above. No permanent mounting required and you can switch it to different vehicles or take it on hikes if you want. I use mine in the RV, trucks and my motorcycle.

I have had a CB in my current MH for 2 + years and had one in the previous one for 12 years. Have it on all the time when we travel and it is especially nice when traveling with family and/or friends. Some people say you don't need one when you have cell phones but sometimes there is no cell coverage while there is always CB coverage. Also it is nice to communicate with everyone in your group at once, Nice too when in Canada where CB air time is free but cell calling is $$$$$$. I drilled a hole in each MH and have not had a problem. My father-in-law used a through-the glass antenna for awhile but beings the range was so limited he finally went ahead and drilled a hole. All kinds of opinions, choices, and options. Do what you think will work for you.

Did you check to see if you already have a prewired antenna. Your DP should have come with one and the leads under the dash for power and ground.

Don, Should I see a Coax cable and wiring? Will it be marked? I did notice that there are two antennas on the front roof area of my coach. I assumed they were for the radio in dash and the outside entertainment stereo.
