Installing a washer and dryer

I'm looking into adding a washer dryer into my Fleetwood Southwind. Mine is an older unit, 1988 and has never had either.

I am considering all the options, as I am considering that I may live full time for a while in this 35 foot MH.

In my home, I have a gas dryer, that is working on plumbed in Propane. I really like the speed and static less function of the dryer. (especially since a 120v dryer will be very slow)

Does anyone use propane for drying in their MHs? Should I be looking at stackables, or combo units? All advice is welcome.

Pertaining to using propane for drying, here's a couple of previous threads on it that you might find interesting:

Propane dryer in a motorhome

Gas dryer OKAY?

Check Bob's post in the first thread about the regulations where fuel-burning dryers must have air coming from the outside (or click here to go directly to his post). Not only does that make installation more impractical but using propane to dry doesn't make sense from an efficiency standpoint for me.

We use a Splendide combo that is vented to the outside and we're happy with it and we've been full-timing for quite a few years now. A stackable might be nice but for us and the amount of laundry we do, we're happy with the combo. But that's just us ...many use stackables in motorhomes and love them.

If you plan on doing a lot of laundry, then perhaps a stackable would meet your needs better. However, remember it's going to weigh more and take more space. For us, we hand wash a lot of stuff and don't use sheets (we use cheap sleeping bags zipped together and blankets. We air out the sleeping bags once a week and spray them with some freshener and disinfectant. We throw them out or donate them after a few months (some homeless shelters will take gently used and clean sleeping bags and ours are both) and we'll then use new ones. We've followed that pattern for years.

We use a vented combo unit. It meets our needs for 2 people. Did not want to give up the storage area for a separate dryer. With some planning on load size and how often to wash, it works fine. BTW, we use sheets.

We have had Splendide non vented unit which was awful. I would not recommend at all. The vented Splendide is great. I do small loads nearly every day. I have a folding drying rack which I use for things that wrinkle. I wash the king size sheets one at a time. I would prefer stackable units, but not enough to give up the space. I can't stress enough the difference between the vented and ventless Splendide. Good Luck!

Another nod for the vented Splendide combo. We have a model 2100XC. Quite happy with it.
