Instrument panel gauges

Hi all, I am very new to the forum and this is my very first post. I have a 2008 Win. 38J Voyage with only 10000 ml on it and everything on it works great. The only drawback is the instrument cluster, I mean it works well but, because it is computerized, it will show only one parameter i.e. water temp, or oil temp, or oil press etc etc and also considering the fact that the dash isn't ergonomically correct, I would like to add few electric gauges, so I can have a qwick view of the engine and transmission conditions, but without touching the original sending units and by-passing the computer all together.
Has anyone ever done this, and if so, what is needed? Do I need to split each sending unit with a "T" or.........suggestions?

You could add a ScanGauge D and choose up to four parameters to monitor. It intercepts signals to the ECM via the J1939 or J1708 diagnostic port. I have mine set up to monitor boost pressure, oil pressure, coolant temperature and ATF temperature. Works for me and it can also read diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) if they occur.

If that Winnebago is a gas burner, does the Scangauge D work with it, or the other models?

What kind of chassis do you have?
You should be able to add gauges if the dash has a J1939 bus

Scangauge makes both gas and diesel models.

X2 on Silverleaf,

Once you buy the interface and down load the program from Silverleaf Electronics you can set up the screen anyway you want.

  1. I have a portion of the screen set up for monitoring fuel economy, fuel used/left.
  2. I then have a YTD trip gauge + a Current Trip gauge both of these show total mileage, fuel used, mpg.
  3. I have 3 separate gauges for voltage, engine temp, and transmission temp.
  4. I have 1 large guage that scrolls through all the available parameters.
  5. I have one gauge for current speed and cruise set speed.
  6. I have one gauge for Turbo Boost and Air Intake Temp
The more important diagnostics info I have in larger screens, others smaller. I also have Engine Temp, Transmission Temp set up with audible ALARMS

Thank you all . I will check both sites,.....Scangauge and Silverleaf but if anyone has some pics that will help a lot. I still don't want another electronic screen, I just like old stile electric gauges but need to know where to connect them. Jim, item 3 on your list, are they just plain and simple electric round gauges.....outside the instrument panel?
My chassis is a W24 with a Vortec 8.1L, gas.
Mike do you have this system installed on yours? if so can you send a pic? Where are the ports that you are referring to, under the upper dash cover?
My present dash has all this in it but to be able to read the parameters while driving, first you need to push the menu button then, with some sort of contortions Kama sutra moves, you need to read the small print and.....scroll the menu and by the time you are done, you find yourself in a ditch! So my solution is very simple, forget about all electronics bull, and install electrical/mechanical gauges with out disconnecting the original set-up otherwise, you all know what's going to happen.....the computer it's going to understand that there is a total failure and .....shut down.
