I understand that they are working on a National Vehicle Insurance Program. They will need to pass it before they know what is in it but if you like your current insurance plan...........

My National Interstate policy (coach and two cars) took a $250 jump jump this year, after several years of excellent rates even though I had a major claim in 2010. I shopped a bit and got an much better rate from Allied/Nationwide through FMCA's partner agent (Farm & City agency). Got a better one through Miller's RV Insurance agency too, but the FMCA quote was even better.

Most agents won't automatically shop around for you at renewal time, so you have to ask them to do it when you get your renewal notice. I figure if I have to ask, I may as well ask other agents to see what they come up with. Sometimes a different agent for the same insurer will still come up with a better rate.

There is a reason the price is going up. My agent is also a friend. We were talking abut the price increase. (all mine went up also) We are in a economic downturn now. Many people view suing as winning the lottery. The number 1 thing is lawyers are now getting the police reports each day. They call people who have been in an accident and offer to get them money. They don't pay unless they win, so they say go ahead. It happened to my Granddaughter. She was backing out of a parking space and a man walked into the side of her car. It was at the movie theater and a policeman saw it and walked over. the man told the officer he wasn't paying attention and walked into the car and fell down. the man calmed my granddaughter down and and told her he was all right and it was his fault. The policeman made a report and a couple of days later the insurance company informed my daughter that he was suing for $45,000. The insurance company settled and my daughters insurance went up.

If I am wrong in making this statement, I'm sure someone will correct me. I thought there was an insurance commission in each state and rates were determined by the commission. Also, Figuring insurance rates is like trying to find cheap medical care..not happening... Different states different rates?

I am with TonyDi. Try National Interstate. Great rates stay the same year after year without any claim.

I too have Allied/Nationwide policy. In effect for over 2 years with no increase in rates. Also they will pay our agreed value if our unit is totaled. I recommend them highly.

Blue Sky Insurance

Has anyone heard of Blue Sky Insurance? Does anyone insure their motorhome with them? How do they rate?

Blue Sky had excellent rates a year ago, too good. They systematically went state by state (thru each states insurance commission) and raised rates. Took them almost a year to do. When my renewal came, the comp and collision premiums more than double. Almost all insurance underwriters did the same thing, raised rates. Increases varied state by state and by carrier, the commission thing again. Asked my RV insurance agent, Rv America Insurance, to do better. Accepted a like policy with Allied Insurance (Nationwide) with a slight increase in premium cost.
My 2 cents... budget insurance doesn't make for a very happy camper if a major claim is needed, shop wisely.
