Insurance renewal

Most motor home owners don't have my problem.
I want to renew my insurance at a lower rate but finding it difficult as I am Australian with no US credit/accident history, social security number or address
I can provide all the Australian equivalents-- anybody would think I'm from another country.
Any clues that will help. Currently with Gmac but exorbitant premium loading.
I also have an international licence and a clean Australian multi combination heavy vehicle licence.

Check with GEICO. When we were stationed in Germany they covered us over there. They are also cheaper than GMAC.

GEICO | GEICO Car Insurance. Get online auto insurance quotes and save today. Free motorcycle quotes as well.

Good Luck,
Jon

Steve,

Bad news for you.

I just talked to a GEICO agent and she informed me that they would insure your RV but you would have to get a U.S. drivers license from any state within 30 days. If you failed to get a license they would cancel the policy.

Wish I could be of more help. Maybe the email you sent will get better results.

Jon

Insurance is a funny duck, I just changed to GMAC form GEICO as GMAC was cheaper. Sometimes I think they use a dart board to determine premium quotes.

Spoke to one broker who quoted me $1726 for $95000
I'm happy with that
We haven't got to the fine detail yet but put it back on Gmac to match it
We will see
By the way, I don't think I cN get a US licence unless I am a citizen

The issue is one of residency, not citizenship. In order to be granted a driver's license, you have to prove residency in that state. Some states require proof of legal presence in the US, some do not. It would be hard to prove residency if your legal presence in the U.S is solely a tourist visa or visa waiver program.

Hi Steve

Being Danish and living in Denmark we have the same problem as you do. We are insured with Progressive but at a higher rate than if we were US resident. We have been down the route that you are now taking but found that none of the other large insurance companies will insure you at all.

Check with Progressive. Our rate is better than the one you are mentioning, but we suppose it all comes down to where your RV is registered. It will make a big difference.

Good luck hunting.

You are (almost) right about that, and that's another reason why your insurance premium will be higher than average. You don't have to be a citizen, but you will have to be resident in the US in order to obtain a US drivers license.

I checked out Peter Lewis and changed companies and it had nothing to do with drugs.
