Interesting Battery Find

This weekend, I was checking my coach and starting batteries and discovered that one of my coach battery's caps had popped off. I know that I had placed them on tightly. The rig is plugged in 24/7. Batteries are at good charge. Any thoughts?

The vent hole on the cap might have been clogged...pressure built up and off she came...

Maybe your converter or inverter is overcharging them as well.

I have found that the inverter/converter MAY in some cases charge the batteries at too high of a rate and make them gas. I use a small trickle (maintainer) charger on both coach and engine batteries and have no issues with this................ JB

I think a lot of northern RVer's first thing on the list will be checking batteries. I too leave the coach hooked up to power all winter. I'm hoping the inverter/charger is trickle charging low enough to keep the water in the batteries. I know that when boats are hooked up to shore power and owners keep their chargers going 24/7 most guys must add water to their batteries every couple months.

Thanks all. Replaced caps, no repeat. I'll keep watching it for a while.
