I have a habit of following motorhome listings (>$5000) on EBay just to maintain a feeling for what they are selling for. Truth be told, probably to validate that my latest buy was fair. Anyway, there are usually 30 to 50 new listings a day. Check the numbers for the past few days:

Oct 3 - 24 listings
Oct 4 - 14
Oct 5 - 43
Oct 6 - 43
Oct 7 - 47
Oct 8 - 8
Oct 9 - 4
Oct 10 - 1
Oct 11 - 1

It's obvious the the economic news of the last week have had a dramatic impact on used RV listings.

Just guessing, but I suspect many people are now in an "over" situation on their loans, lending market is dried up and people are hoarding their remaining cash.

Any thoughts???????

I suspect you are right. A lot of people bought expensive motorhomes in the past few years and I suspect more than a few of them now regret the commitment to large monthly payments.

I don't think there is a wrong or right in the original posters senario. I'm sure they did their research before you did. However, many people are making "knee jerk" reactions to what they hear the media say. You want to hear something different, just change the channel. This is also end of the RVing season in a lot of the country. Some folks buy the RV, take it out a few times and then find out it is not what they thought it would be. And yes, some of it is linked to economics.

I have never heard of someone buying an RV as investment

Just like your first reply when you searched the wrong date. None of us are infallable. And his opinion doesn't make him wrong, it's just an opinion.

And sarcasam is like hot sauce, a little goes a long way.....

Looking at the big picture it doesn't matter if there are 20 or 20,000 RV's for sale on eBay, it won't change anyone mind to sell or purchase. Not really worth increasing ones blood pressure just to make a point. Economic news ALWAYS makes an impact, positive for some and negative for others. All of us hope for an upturn in the market. Loans are a personal choice and nobody should be belittled for their choices as long as those choices don't infinge on anothers rights. If Bob's information is incorrect it won't be the first or last incorrect information I have read on the internet. Life isn't black or white or absolute.

My Wife and I call our RV our appreciated depreciating investment. Right now we are enjoying our RV more than looking at our market investments.

Right on Bob! I usually will stop visiting forums when someone attacks a post like yours, there are too many forums available with people that appreciate research and information. There are more considerate ways to disagree with informational postings.

Dirk:

Please accept my sincere apology if I have offended you or anyone else on this forum. It was/is not my intent to inflame other members. Guess I'd better go back to lurking.

For those interested, here is the url for my search string:

http://motors.search-desc.ebay.com/search/search.dll?so...00&fpos2=22193&lsot2

Again, I am sorry that I brought up a such a controversial subject that instigated such fevered responses.

(I have deleted my previous post in case my explaination was out of line)

Thanks Bob.

I have deleted the remaining flaming posts.

Please do not feel you need to only lurk.

Controversial subjects are brought up frequently, and they can be discussed without it getting personal, as our rules state.

I see the problem with your search.

You used Find with the word "Motorhome" and checked the box "Include title and description". Thus spellings of "Motor Home" with the space and other motorhomes that do not have that word are not included in your search.

Try this: Select "Motorized" under type.
under "other options" select "Price" and enter $5000 to $5000000 and see what you get.
Also use any other of the options to limit the search.
I definitely would not use Find.

Ben
