Introduction

Hi All, We are new to the iRV2 community. We have trailered for years but sold our tow rig and trailer several years ago due to inactivity. Now that we are both retired and have newly acquired a Class A motorhome, albeit an old one, we are looking forward to bringing our old motorhome up to an acceptable standard to travel in. I need to put 4 new tires on the rig. My question to the group is: I have been presented with several choices by tire dealerships. My tire size is R8/19.5. We were given the Regul@$120ea., Hercules@$154 ea., Bridgetone@$225ea. , and Hancook@$225ea. I would like to know if anyone has had less than desireable experiences with any of these tires and which would the community most recommend to purchase?

Ken

Glad you're aboard. Congrats on the new to you rig. Lots of threads here on tires, especially the 8R 19.5's. Typr 8R 19.5 in the google window in the tool bar above and leave it set to IRV2. I'm sure you'll have plenty of reading. My $.02 is never a Brigestone on any of my vehicles. One summer in the fleet I used to work on I installed 16 brand new 9.50 19.5 BSs. By the end of the summer I had 12 that had lost the belt/ ply separation. Best of luck in your search and decision. Enjoy your adventures and be safe.

Tire Info

Welcome to the irv2 gang! Glad you decided to join.

You will receive and find a lot of useful information in these forums. Here's another resource: RV Travel - News, information & advice for RV enthusiasts Their tire expert is Roger Marble. They have articles and videos (uTube) plus free weekly newsletters. I pick up some "nuggets" there fairly frequently (but my heart belongs to irv2).

Hi blazenpm,
Welcome to iRV2. Have you considered Michelin tires? Are you a member of FMCA? FMCA has a discount program with Michelin. Go to Tire Connection - Michelin Advantage Program and take a look. I do not see your tire size in the sample they provide. However, if you contact them one could determine if the program is a benefit to you.

Either way, FMCA might be an organization for you to consider joining.

Hi Ken! Welcome to IRV2! It's great to have you join the gang!

Out of that group I would choose the Bridgestone! JMHO!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Bridgestone and Hankook are well-respected international brands and I would have no qualms whatsoever. The others, well, quality control is probably hit or miss. Maybe OK, or maybe a square tire or premature blowout due to a manufacturing defect. Only you can decide if the risk is worth the cost savings.
