We bought our coach in TX and had initial warranty work done in VA. While full timing for 7 years we had it serviced all over the country and were never told or even hinted that they would not work on it because we didn't buy it there. Most of the time we waited right there for the job to be completed, many times staying overnight in hookups provided by the dealership. Our big problem was finding competent service. Far too many did a sorry job, and one, after several hours of work, admitted they were in over their head and put it all back together and sent us on our way with a wasted day and 200 mile roundtrip. GOOD that we found an honest service dept! TO BAD they were not up to the job!

Don't ya all just love warranties and wondering how many would rather have one of these so called warranties vs a suitcase full of money?
As for Dealers in general and even for buying a rig.....yeah, sometimes, they are a necessary evil.

I not not read this entire thread but this was a question I wrote to Fleetwood when looking at a new coach.

My letter to them:

Quote:
Just some clarification. Have been shopping for a new RV and have been
looking at the Bounder Classic and where I live, there is a dealer that
sells them but also another dealer that sells them in another state,
about 4 hr drive but can save approx 10K but I was told by the local
dealer here, that if I bought one out of this area, they would not work
do any warranty work on it.

Is this true?
There reply to me:

Quote:
Hello!

Thank you for contacting Fleetwood RV. Please accept our apologies for
any inconvenience. Although we hope the authorized Fleetwood RV dealers
will service any of the motor homes, they are not a franchise of
Fleetwood RV. They are required to work on motor homes they have sold
thru the warranty period, but are not obligated to perform repairs on
ones they did not sell. We can only suggest that you decide what best
fits your needs. Thanks and again, we extend our apologies.

I found a good mobile mechanic that will deal with the warranty and extended warranty for the house portion. For the chassis, F53, I take it to a Ford dealer that has RV service.

That sort of says it all! I think we'll send a similar letter to Winnebago and see what they say!

Just for the record, if you buy an Entegra, you just call them and they will direct you to where it can be fixed. Fabulous service.

This reply is due to Fleetwood's Dealer Agreement being a sales agreement only. Unlike automobile manufacturer's dealer agreements that are sales AND service agreements. When I worked for a import manufacturer there were a couple of dealer's who tried to pull this " we only service what we sell " crap and the corporate lawyers explained the terms of the franchise agreement to them in no nonsense terms. One reversed his policy the other fought it and lost his dealership.

All manufacturers do this, that is not the problem. The problem is finding a company to do the work, do it right, do it on time, and put the customer first.

There are companies that will do this, but finding them is difficult. The industry as a whole is poor in the delivery of service after the sale.
