With the normal depreciation of motorhomes, they all take a huge hit during the first few years, then they all stabilize in resale value. It's more a matter of maintenance, general appearance, and what is broken and doesn't work at the time of resale that determines the resale price.

As mentioned above, fulltimers expose their coach 24/7/365 for years or decades. However, they typically maintain them, (and replace parts as necessary including the roof, awnings, carpet, upholstery, curtains, blinds, plumbing fixtures, etc....), meticulously.

If you have shopped for used motorhomes, you will quickly discover that a well cared for motorhome that has never been covered may be worth much more than a neglected but very well stored motorhome.
This was NEVER my observation when looking for one, and is still not, now when looking............Everyday.....
I always said, one will pay more for the condition.........of what ever.....one is selling.....
I have sold items that have been inside other than when used, and fetched a great price due to the condition. And just the same,.........I have always paid for used condition for anything I was buying.........based on storage/condition.

If you can afford it, I would recommend it as more than the roof will deteriorate faster, including fiberglass or clearcoat finish. You will save time and money on washing and waxing plus you won't have the same heat build up in the interior.

My garage town rental was $500.00 month plus utilities of $50.00 more each month. I loved the inside storage but for $6600.00 a year i finally decided it was to much money. I'm hoping to retire some day and spend more time traveling then in storage and I may need that money.

Covered RV Storage

My take is how old is the RV? I purchased a 10 year old MH that looked like new on the exterior. It apparantly was stored indoors and had very low mileage. Covered storage we tried is expensive and washing the exterior was still needed. We've decided to store the MH uncovered and wash it as needed.

I full-time now, but if I had to live in the northeast again, I definitely would. 1500 for 10 years, $15000. You will get most of that back in resale.

Brandonrv,

Consider building a cover at your house if possible. If you intend to RV for the foreseeable future it's money well spent.... particularly here in (Central) Texas where construction is reasonably priced vs years of renting.

My son's cover will be completed Monday... only two days construction time. Total cost for the bldg. (25x50, 16' walls). is $7k but it is a crushed stone floor and he did the utilities himself.

My storage the first 2 years I owned my MH was $2400 per year. I bought a 2000 model year in late 2011. I used the inside storage to remodel and do maintenance you couldn't do outside. Roof, reseal windows, etc
If you are going to be long term part-time RVer, its worth it, and building your own, even better.

I agree with the others. Stored inside is worth the cost. Recently, I sold a 2003 travel trailer. The buyer commented about the condition of the roof etc and that he had looked at a newer model that was kept outdoors and had a leaking roof. BTW-I never had any problems with the travel trailer and the buyer paid $300.00 less than the asking price (which was above average retail price).

Will do but it may be Tuesday before I get by his place to get some pics. It's a Mueller Steel Building (weld together) kit and cost $3500. The builder we use puts this size up in 2 working days and does a great job!

Although not built for MH storage I attached some pics of another project using a Mueller kit & the same builder, that he recently completed for me. This one is an add on, 24' x 50', 14' walls with insulation, gutters and a roll up door.

But........now the rig really needs a new paint job. Cost $25,000.

Savings......$1,000.

Your circumstances may be totally different.
wouldn't consider doing it in south of border?

I wonder how long any repaint job with two stage paint will last if not done in a controlled environment, a paint booth, and then proper heated drying.

The original CC paint job was remarkable.

I doubt the same durability exists in a Mexico open air application and drying type of job. But, it would be cheaper.

I live in Texas where it gets hot in the summer. It's a rubber roof. I assume there are some considerable advantages to covering it, but wanted to check with the experts.

I can only actually use it once or twice per month at the most also. So large portion of the time it's just sitting in the same spot.

$1500/year it will cost. Will I get equal that in savings on wear and tear on the roof/tires/etc..?
Why don't you ask if they give a discount if you pay for a year in advance. That's what we have done with the last 2 places we stored the Bus. I think it was 10 or 20% discount. Every little bit helps!

Yes mine was actually $250 per month, but paid up for a year $2400.
