Jacks retract if unloaded

The HWH kickdown jacks on my 97 F53 extend and retract normally and quickly when operated from the joystick. They have enough power to lift the front wheels when needed. When extended and loaded, they stay put. But whichever, if any, of the jacks are extended and not loaded or very lightly loaded, they will retract on their own over several minutes.

I normally don't extend all four jacks, just 2 or 3 as needed to level the coach. Sometimes, the jack on the right front will retract on it's own after I extend the slide on the left side, taking the weight off the right front jack.

Is an unloaded jack retracting on its own normal? Is it a problem? Should I be extending and loading all four jacks just as general practice?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I lower all four jacks to stabilize and minimize movement. Not sure why a jack should retract on it's own.My guess would be a faulty solenoid valve that seals under pressure and slowly leaks when not.

jupoa, what brand of leveling system do you have? Have you noticed any evidence of the jacks leaking hydraulic fluid? How long have you been leveled before having an issue of being off level?

Thanks for your reply, Wizard.

I have HWH manual kickdown jacks, as I said. The hydraulic system operates a couple of slide cylinders as well. There are no leaks currently but I did replace the hose on the left front jack some time ago due to a slow leak at the fitting. Actually, the jacks under load don't bleed off at all, only the one(s) that are extended but unloaded. The coach has never been on the jacks for more than a couple of days at a time, though.

I've been playing phone tag with customer service at HWH for a couple of days now. Can't seem to link up.

I would recommend you extend and retract all jacks fully several times. This will bleed out any air that might be in the system. Let us know what HWH has to say when you hear from them. Thanks.

FWIW, I had a similar problem with a new installed HWH system on our Class C.
We had the automatic system installed with kickdown jacks.
First time we used them, had one rear that extended but retracted on its own. Also had a puddle of fluid around the jack.
Discovered it was a faulty install. Lines weren t tightened enough.
