JC 10 lamps

Does anyone agree with me that JC 10 bulbs suck. They say they should last for 1500-2000 hrs. I use one or more every time we go camping, this time 6 days and two bulbs so far. Not the same lamps. I think these bulbs have a G 4 base but am not sure. Would like to order them by the dozen online but not sure if they are G 4 base. Anybody know?

Pete, I have a hard time understanding what bulbs you are talking about. Are you talking about those small 12 volt 10 watt halogen lights with the G4 base that are all over the ceiling? If so one major reason that they burn out fast is if you touch the bulb with your fingers. The oils from your skin coat the bulbs glass and causes the heat to be reflected back into the bulb and they will burn out. Try taking some rubbing alcohol and cleaning the bulbs. When I replace the bulbs and have to handle them I always use a paper towel around them. One thing that we can't control is the guy that installed the bulbs at the factory where the MH was being made. He probably just grabbed the bulbs with his fingers and installed them. You do know that those bulbs are available at Home Depot?

You can get LED replacements for the G4 pin base halogen bulbs.

The problem with LED SMD disks is that I've yet to find any that are dim-able. All but one of my halogens are on rotary dim switches and I want to keep them that way.

Mike I don't touch them, I use a pair of needle nose pliers on one of the male legs to get it stared and then push it in with the pliers. I haven't checked Home Depot but Lowe's was $5.98, Camping world is $2.98 and $3.29. Been using the $2.98 and picked up a couple of the $3.29 yesterday and will try them. I'm going to look into Footdocs SMC. At camping world the LED replacement is like $32.00, not going to pay that.

Footdoc is SMC a brand name for some LEDs? Not familiar with SMC.

Graig I don't have a dimer, I don't like the heat either. I don't leave any of them on while not in the MH or while we sleep.

I have two of those in this six year old Motor home, I have repalced both of them ONE TIME EACH, NOTE: if you go to any "Home improvement" store they are standard 10 watt low voltage (12v) light lamps, no need to shop camping world. (Way cheaper at Lowes or Home Depot)

Do wear cotton golves when removing the new lamp from teh packet and installing, Finger oil (prints) will damage the lamp.
