Jensen VR185 radio am band not coming in

My Jensen VR185 radio picks up FM great but won't do the same for AM. I pulled the radio out and with the radio turned on and I disconnect the antenna the FM is lost but upon connecting again it returns. AM band just statics and when I turn the volume up very loud I can hear something...just barely. Help?

I would also suspect the antenna. FM will work on almost no antenna at all but AM needs a good antenna. When I take toad to car wash and lower antenna, I can still pick up FM but no AM. And where are you parked? I can hardly get any AM where my MH is parked, under a metal roof. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Am requires a good antenna, with a good clean ground.

And .. Jensen is generally a low end radio. It's unfortunate that RV's cost 10's of thousands of dollars (new and used) ... but in a new RV most manufacturers opt to put in nearly the cheapest radio's available.
