Just got a 92 Fleetwood South Wind With a 93 460

Is The 92 South Wind A Good Motor home. We just traded our pickup for it and using this motor home to move from BC Can. To NB Can. in spring. It looks very clean with 70000 miles on it. Any feedback would help. Thank you

Well, it's as good as any from that era. The 460 is a strong engine, as is the E4OD transmission, but 70k miles pushing around a heavy motorhome is hard work. Should be fine if it was well-maintained, though.

I don't recall if the 460 had multiport fuel injection in 92/93. Might be throttle body injection instead? The multiport injected engine performed quite well, but the throttle body version was only ok.

We had a 96 Southwind and it was excellent. However, on an older rig, the care that it has had is the most important factor.

I've sold many trucks of that year combination from the Ryder Truck Rental fleet in the local area in the 130 to 145K miles range that were well maintained by Ryder they are still in the area in excess of 250 going on 300K + miles with maintenance that is simply tow it in when it breaks, fix what's wrong and let it go. The engine just keeps on running as long as it has a little oil and you say hello to it once in a while. Transmission and drive line holds up good.

Brakes should be looked at occasionally so you'll only have to replace pads versus when they get metal to metal and need pads, rotors, and calipers.

One can only imagine how they would do with proper scheduled maintenance.

Thank you Gary And John & Cathy. Our SouthWind Seems to have been well maintain in and out. It comes from a dealer and they check everything on it and all seems good. So hope we will be able To cross Canada in spring with no problems.

I have a 95 southwind with he 460 that is a 94, love it.

some advise for you..... fwiw, have a temp gauge installed in your dash for the transmission. you will need it to monitor the fluid. do a search for that tranny and you will see why. mine was rebuilt last fall because of overheating, at the tune of $2800.00 but i had all the upgrades done that are available including the billet torque converter., shift kit , heavy duty pump, etc.

worth the upgrade just for the shift kit. works great now.

happy camping, bob
