A dealer may give you 6K on it for a trade in if you are lucky.

This would not be a difficult choice for me. I drive a 20 year old MH on a P37 chassis that has 36K on the odometer. The only issue I have had with it was replacing the front ball joints. on the plus side, I can know post in the vintage forum. No payments! I own it, not the bank and I.

When you get back home you can bring her up to speed and then decide. You may just decide you want something different and that's ok too.

First let me say thanks for your service. And then, please let me apologize if my reply seemed overly harsh to you, but your OP led me to assume a "covered" RV was not being driven during your deployment. If THAT is incorrect, then most of my comments don't apply, however if someone has simply been cranking it up and idling it monthly and NOT driving it, then I'm afraid you will still be looking at some serious "lot rot" issues to deal with.
Good luck and safe travels as you make it back home.

Last poster hit on something important. If you motor home is not started and driven at least an hour at normal temperatures, you are better off leaving it sit. Also, your generator needs to be started and run UNDER LOAD for 1-2 hours a month in order to dry out the windings, which is a common cause of failure for generators that are not run regularly.

Get home, check it out, do a thorough PMCS, change fluids, etc and then decide. You ask the question "keep or trade", understand that you can't "trade" unless you are buying from a dealer . . . personally I avoid dealers, so if you decide you don't want it, put it on the lemon lot at your post/base, and advertise on craigslist. I would hold off on replacing the tires and batteries if they hold air and keep any charge, respectively. Adjust price, or dicker based on knowing they need replacing rather than replace up front, you may not get your money back if you replace now. Good luck in whatever you decide! Take care and thank you for your Service!

With my 1994 PaceArrow I had life got real busy and it sat in my backyard for two years un covered without being used. It was pluged in as I used the fridge for overflow during the summer(beer). When time came to use again nothing was done to it and all was fine for eight more years until we sold it for a DP.

My question to all is should I keep it and put money into it or trade it on a newer used class A?
Mine sat for 2 1/2 years because my Dad had a stroke and wasn't able to take care of it any longer. It did develop some leaks from the sealant cracking on the roof, but overall it was in pretty good shape. The only mechanical issue I had wrong that was related to it sitting that long were the brakes. During the 780 mile trip back home from Ohio the right brakes overheated in the TN mountains and I had to have a caliper replaced. Then later in the trip (2 /12 hours from home) the front brakes overheated. I had the Chevy dealer in McDonough, Ga go through the whole brake system. They flushed everything and removed, cleaned and lubed most all of the moving parts. No problems since (knock on wood).

Sitting for any length of time isn't good for these vehicles, but there is no reason to think you need to trade it just because it's been sitting.
