When stored in my garage I leave my steps extended with the switch off so I can enter and exit with out the steps moving in and out all the time. I was going to start the coach yesterday and when I turned on the ignition switch I heard the steps retract like normal and I heard a loud thud. I shut the ignition switch off and after checking I found the linkage assembly had broken. It is a type A.

My question is has anyone else had this happen and what causes it. There was no obstruction and it must have happened at the end of its travel when folding up. What shuts off the motor when it completely folds up? Can something fail that allows to much pressure on the linkage?

Your thoughts or experience would be much appreciated.

I have had same problem it seams the stairs when moving back and forth will jam the coter pin so it eventually gets a bend in pin and will jam the links locked.
I have replace pins but it happens so much that I now use a threaded bolt with a locking nut.
You need to lube all pivots and the linkage and with the bolt the stairs move allot more freely.
I have never found an adjustment to stop the jamming.

Thanks Roger for your reply. I have been lubricating all my pivot points on the steps. After the linkage broke I could move the steps freely. I use the grease in a spray can.

I didn't see what coach you have posted. I have a 06 Endeavor and that happened to mine last year. It was a part with a rotating ball on both ends that broke on mine. I had it replaced by a RV shop but it appeared that it would not be a big job to replace. If that is it. Look under the step and see what broke. Then you could go from there.
