Smile Kwikee steps

I have a 06 Tiffin Phaeton with Kwikee electric steps. When the door is closed and the steps retract they like about 2-3 inches closing all the way. The steps can be raised the remaining distance by hand without resistance but the motor will not complete its cycle. If a slight amount of push by hand is added as the steps close they will close all the way but without the help they will not. I have disassembled looking for a mechanical problem but none could not see one. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Oil the center pivot shaft. The motor stops on over-current draw and if the main swivel shft is dry it will cause that.

Lube will likely take care of it. If not look for a bind. On mine I had a broken mounting bolt causing problems.

When we had this happen at our shop, As was said before it was usually rusted and dry. We had the most luck with spraying all the hinge points with WD40. Operate the steps several times. Let them sit overnight. The next day spray again with WD40. The WD40 is more of a cleaner and dissolver than a lubercant. After a couple of weeks, Lube the steps with a light spray grease. Keep the steps lubed in the future. about every six months give a good dose of WD40 to break up the grease buildup. You will have to lay on the ground to be sure you get to all hinge points. Make sure you do the motor clevis and linkage.
