A new way to break 'em. The weld holding the step frame to the Southwind foundation tore loose. Didn't help that the owner weighed about 400 lbs. Spent a couple of hours underneath pulling the steps so she could be on her way. My life as a camp host.

I worry about mine at 280,

held in place with 1/4" bolts.
Parked for more than a night , the support goes under.

On my MH , They are only held on with 2 - one inch welds on each side. The stress is on the outside weld, when it breaks the steps lean downward. After pushing back up and holding it there with a jack, I welded a piece of 2X2 angle iron on each side of mine for additional welding and support.

On our coach, an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the C-7 330HP CAT, we have the "two step" model of Kwikee. It's mounted on a sort of weak foundation and, is quite springy when we step in and out of the coach. I've been a welder for years and, there's not a whole lot I can do to bolster that system up without some extensive work.

So, no matter at home, at a camp spot, RV park, for 1 day or, three weeks, the "step saver" comes out and, is placed under it. That step saver takes 100% of the weight when we go in and out of the coach. I've gotten so used to placing it under there that it's just part of the setup and take down procedure.
