We were in town the other day and looking at new and used motorhomes, I mean sometimes you get the urge. I was amazed to see that the new rigs concentrate on pretty floors and cabinets and furniture. We are fulltimers and the lack of storage amazed me, tiny cabinets, were abundant. We have a 2006 holiday rambler endeavor and have huge cabinets, about 18 inches deep all through the coach. It is important to have all that storage space and is why we bought this unit. My head is not turned by fancy anything, and how often do you have company in your rig to show off. We are outdoors folk, that is why we camp. I guess I am too practical for look nice things with no practicality. Most of the new rigs have a dishwasher, most of my friends use that for storage. Just wanted to vent. Thanks

We agree. We spent several days at the Hershey RV show in September looking at high end MH's from all the major manufacturers. There's lots of glitz but very limited storage, tiny kitchens and a few, small windows. Most manufacturers claim they produce what the market wants. Well they sure didn't ask us.

I am convinced that the people designing these things have never used them for other than an occasional weekend, or tailgating where impressing people is a must. The lack of storage may be a result of the tendency for people to overload and exceed the weight limits. My dw has a way of filling every nook and cranny with stuff that we never use but "just in case".

I have to agree.. Our 2004 Endevour has tons of deep cabinets.. We still haven't filled them up. One improvement the previous owner did was remove the tv from the cabinet in the bedroom, made a new oak door to cover the opening and it makes for a huge linen cabinet.. He then mounted a flat screen on the side wall of that cabinet. it does block the window a little but does swing out of the way for emergency exit..

I don't need four tv's, a half bath, and a fireplace! We're fulltime and also spend a lot of our time socializing outside. I too would rather have windows and storage.

We full time and have not found lack of storage an issue. We have some cabinets with very little in them. DW has to stuff throw pillow in them to keep things from sliding around and possibly breaking. I also have free sace in the basement.
Bedroom storage is a little tight but acceptable. I do agree that it would be nice to have more windows but have no idea how that could be done and still have the storage. It's a necessary compromise dictated by the physical limits of a vehicle that you can still drive down the road.

Well, just between you, me and the gatepost. I could give a rats a_ _ about the high end products, probably cause I can't afford them. That's, why I have an older unit and plenty of storage. Don't get me wrong, I can still look and dream.

From your description of your storage situation, I cannot imagine you are full-timers. I don't think there's any relationship between the storage needs of those who full-time and those who just weekend or take vacations in their RVs.

I love looking at new and newer coaches even though I will likely never buy one. Great for getting ideas but I have to admit I pinch myself each time I go into my coach because I still like it and it's paid for.

We've looked at a lot of rigs some older, and frankly I didn't see a huge difference in any of them. I was surprised at how far back in time that they had the same style. Yes 4 tvs is a bit much though, and can do without the dishwasher and laundry appliances. But if I was full timing the quirks would be nice. Agree, so many small cupboards, my first reaction was how strange that looked. But my mind is getting used to the odd things that accommodate thousands of people's needs.

The biggest change I've noticed in the new units is that the over head cabinets come out only a short distance from the wall. Our cabinets come out 18'' to 24"...so we can get three times the 'stuff' in ours compared to the new ones.

I've been very disappointed with the inside cabinetry of new coaches. As Cat320 above pointed out, overheads are quite shallow & the closet space in the bedroom is so limited. Outside basement storage seems to be adequate but inside is pitiful. I'm with 336muffin in that we don't need all that extra accessory stuff. When the day comes we want to travel more & for longer, I'm gonna need WAY more cabinetry than new models provide.

DocJ, no we do full time in a Phaeton 42LH. You cannot equip a MH like a house. For instance our cook ware all nests down into a the size of a skillet and the handles are removable. See picture, there are three sizes of pots and two skillets and lids for all. Most everything is placed in plastic bins of an appropriate size. Most everything we purchased was done so with space in mind. Everything that is possible to nest, we do. The dinner ware is Corel as it stacks into very little space. Coffee maker is the smallest Keurig they make. It all adds up to extra space.
The basement is is organized using plastic bins as well. Our outdoor chairs food flat, the grill is a Baby Q, my tools all fit into a single tool box, coach cleanng supplies fit into a rectangular bucket, etc.
Being all electric I do have the extra basement bay where the propane would normally sit and I do not have a front TV.
