Leak from awning mount

Water is damaging an inside wall, I have caulked, taped and cussed. The repair shop pointed out several places. Most I can do, but the power awning mount to the coach is riveted on. I could see removing a screw and caulking but I have never replaced a rivet.. Also to get to the rivets the awning must be extended, I think the lower rivet could be removed safely, but the top rivet would have weight on it?? How do I support this? Can a rivet be drilled out and replaced with a screw??
suggestions appreciated,, Don
