LED Headlight Upgrade, very impressed

I found the headlights from RV Geeks and I have to say, I am as impressed as they are. Our lights could have been improved two fold if we put a candle on the front of the coach, in other words, horrible.

Waited for the weather to get a bit warmer combined with no rain and finally got them installed today. I'm sorry I don't have a before and after. If you are looking for a minimal expense for new headlights, I highly recommend the lights below. I will also provide a link to the rv geeks, hope that is okay. Their results mimic ours to a "T".

Just to be clear, I have no affiliation with M4 products.

I'm sure you like them, it's nice to be behind a brighter light, but what about those of us facing your new lights in traffic? I raise this concern because there's been a huge increase in the sale and use of non certified lighting which causes glare and blinds oncoming drivers.

The product website contains this language: "This is not a DOT compliant tested light, similar to HID modules. Your light fixture is DOT certified and the light control is very similar to your original halogen bulb. Please use at your discretion."

The quotation is presented just as it appears there, in bold.

I'm all for better lighting and safety, however non certified lighting should not be permitted on the road, in my opinion.

That's where projection housings come in where a solenoid puts a physical "gate" at the top of the beam so there is a sharp cutoff to keep stray light from blinding oncoming vehicles. All of the light energy is guided to the road in front of the vehicle.
So you can add more lumens without messing with oncoming.
But, that's where the upgrade cost comes in...the housing is more expensive and much harder to install than a simple bulb replacement.

Both of my RVs had pitiful lighting stock so both got new housings and bulbs. I don't get "flashed" when the Low beams are on (Low = 95% of the driving time). It's far better that I see where I am going then to put my RV in the way of oncoming traffic or trees or run over kind folks.

Glad to hear that you're satisfied with the M4 headlight replacements. That's what I plan to use!

Going by that video, it looks like he is flat out blinding oncoming traffic.

I installed them prior to leaving for our present trip. They work great and I don’t get flashed either. I can now actually see at night whereas before it was borderline whether you should’ve driving due to the poor visibility of the original low beams.

The Xenon headlights that were in our BMW were extremely bright, like the sun was out. Those would result in an occasional approaching car flashing and I already had on my low beams.

I'm with you on this. There's far too many people making illegal lighting modifications simply because the police don't have the inclination to enforce equipment laws.

I'm pretty tired of getting blinded by those folks who only care that THEY can see.

Before you switch to these LEDs be sure to check out all the IRV2 threads you can find on LED Headlamp conversions. They don't work great on every type of headlamp.

One thing that makes oncoming glare worse is dirty, fogged or crazed lenses. Even with dot compliant bulbs, the resultant scatter can make today's brighter lights blinding. DOT should never have allowed lense materials that don't stay clear for the expected lifespan. My Audi lenses were badly fogged after only 5 years. Hopefully the coach does better, although like tires, I may make covers for the headlights.

Waterman, that's my beef too: they never should allow the use of headlight lens materials that deteriorate in the sun. I know that plastic type materials are easy to form into the stylish and aerodynamic shapes we see today, but headlights can get dangerous when they become so sun damaged that they no longer provide proper lighting at night.

One question I’ve had always is why do the headlights not work well to begin with?

These headlamps assemblies came off of factory production cars and I don’t recall hearing that many complaints about the headlights on those cars/pick ups not Working well.

So what changed from taking it off A ‘94 ford bronco and installing those factory headlamps on to my 01 Dutch Star that now they aren’t the best in the world?

Is it a question of misalignment or not getting the proper full 12 V to it or???

The headlights are often knockoffs of the OEM lights that may not work as well, and they are mounted higher and farther apart than their design specs.
